South Africa does not lack candidates for the title of best Springbok. That is what makes Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu's rise so significant.
In a player pool filled with established stars and proven veterans, FloRugby ranked the Stormers fly-half No. 2 among the Top 100 men's rugby players in the world entering the 2026-27 season — higher than every other South African.

The argument is not that Feinberg-Mngomezulu, 24, someday will become South Africa's best player.
It is that he already has.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu's 2025-26 Season Changed The Conversation
Start with what he did for the DHL Stormers Rugby.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu produced 815 meters, beat 52 defenders and scored 10 tries in 11 URC appearances during 2025-26. He led URC fly-halves in meters carried and defenders beaten while also completing 133 passes at 84% accuracy and producing five try assists.
Those are extraordinary numbers for a No. 10 because they reveal what separates Feinberg-Mngomezulu from the traditional fly-half profile.
He does not merely distribute possession or move a team around the field. He can destroy a defensive structure himself.
Give him space and he runs through it. Close that space and his passing can move the point of attack. Back off and his kicking becomes another problem. He converted 89% of his URC goal kicks.
The result was recognition from the people playing against him. Feinberg-Mngomezulu was voted the URC Players' Player of the Season and also was named South Africa's URC Player of the Year.
That is not potential. That is production.
The Springboks Have Seen The Same Match-Breaking Ability
His international sample remains smaller, but the ceiling already has appeared at Test level.
Nothing demonstrated it better than South Africa's 67-30 victory over Argentina in the 2025 Rugby Championship.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu carried for 134 meters, beat 13 defenders, scored three tries and finished with 37 points, setting a South African single-Test scoring record.
It was an outrageous performance from any player, never mind a fly-half.
Across that Rugby Championship campaign, he helped South Africa retain the title while continuing to offer something unusual at No. 10: the ability to turn a conventional attacking shape into a line break without requiring somebody outside him to create it.
That matters enormously for the Springboks.
A fly-half who can distribute, kick and manage a match is valuable. One who also forces defenders to treat him like a strike runner changes the geometry of the entire attack.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu has that effect.
Why Rank Sacha Above South Africa's Established Stars?
This is where the argument becomes difficult.
Pieter-Steph du Toit, Malcolm Marx, Ox Nche and Siya Kolisi represent the strongest kind of counterargument. South Africa's established forwards have enormous value in areas that do not translate as neatly into tries, meters or highlight-reel breaks.
Their experience also matters. Feinberg-Mngomezulu has only 19 Test caps in the research sample, and his 2026 international evidence consists of three Tests against New Zealand.
A knowledgeable Springbok supporter could reasonably argue that three 2026 Tests are not enough to move him above veterans who have demonstrated their quality over a far longer period.
There are other questions.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu still can take creative risks. His defensive numbers include missed tackles. His goal-kicking responsibilities have at times been shared. An ankle injury suffered in the URC quarterfinal against Cardiff also kept him out of South Africa's June Tests.
Those concerns are real.
They are simply outweighed by what happened when he played.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Gives South Africa Something Different
Feinberg-Mngomezulu is not being ranked above South Africa's other stars because he is younger or more exciting. He is there because few players can influence a match in as many attacking ways from such an important position.
He can control possession as a fly-half, distribute accurately, create tries, kick goals and attack the line like an outside back. He also can cover center and fullback.
And when a match opens up, he does not simply facilitate the damage.
He becomes the damage.
John Dobson has called him a "generational player." The numbers explain why. Leading URC fly-halves in both meters and defenders beaten while producing at Test level is not normal positional output.
At 24, the temptation is to make Feinberg-Mngomezulu's story about what comes next.
FloRugby's ranking makes a different argument.
His potential may be extraordinary, but potential is not why he is No. 2 in the world.
It is the 815 URC meters. The 52 defenders beaten. The awards. The playmaking. The record 37-point Test. The ability to run, pass and kick from the most influential position in the backline.
South Africa is filled with world-class rugby players.
Right now, FloRugby believes Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is the best of them.
