Comfortable at fly-half, fullback or wing, the Argentina international quickly established himself during his first season with Bath Rugby, producing standout performances that included a match-high 115 meters against his former club Gloucester and two tries against Newcastle.
Entering the 2026 Nations Championship with 64 Test caps, Carreras continues to provide Los Pumas with one of the game's most adaptable playmakers. His versatility and attacking instincts make him invaluable, even among a crowded field of elite international backs.
29. Tom Curry | Flanker | England | Sale Sharks | Gallagher PREM
Relentless at the breakdown and fearless in defense, Curry, 28, has spent much of his career setting the standard for England's back row. Another outstanding Test season earned him a place in World Rugby's Dream Team and a starting role for the British & Irish Lions, but a calf injury suffered before England's Six Nations meeting with Italy sidelined him for seven Sale Sharks matches.
His return immediately transformed Sale's forward pack, reinforcing why he remains one of the world's premier openside flankers.
28. Emmanuel Meafou | Lock | France | Toulouse | Top 14
Standing well over two meters tall (6-foot-8, 320 pounds), Meafou, 28, combines overwhelming physical power with surprising mobility around the field. The Toulouse lock remained a key figure for both club and country, featuring prominently during France's Six Nations campaign before a head injury assessment and extended reconditioning program interrupted the closing months of his season.
Now firmly established as an international lock rather than an emerging prospect, Meafou's combination of size, athleticism and physical dominance continues to make him one of rugby's most difficult forwards to contain.
27. Damian Willemse | Utility Back | South Africa | DHL Stormers | URC
Few players offer the versatility of Willemse, 28. Equally comfortable at fullback, fly-half or center, the two-time Rugby World Cup winner continues to give South Africa tactical flexibility few players can match. An injury delayed the start of his 2026 campaign, but his return coincided with his 100th appearance for the Stormers, another milestone in an already remarkable career.
Signed through 2027, Willemse remains one of the Springboks' most trusted backs because he can excel almost anywhere in the backline.
26. Max Jorgensen | Wing | Australia | NSW Waratahs | Super Rugby
Still only in the early stages of his career, Jorgensen, 21, has already emerged as one of Australian rugby's brightest young stars. A syndesmosis injury threatened to derail his 2025 season, but he recovered in time to score in both the first and third British & Irish Lions Tests before exploding into the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season with six tries in the opening month.
Australia Rugby rewarded his rapid rise with a contract through 2031, underlining its belief that Jorgensen will become a cornerstone of the Wallabies for years to come.
25. Ben Earl | Back Row | England | Saracens | Gallagher PREM
Dynamic with ball in hand and relentless around the field, Earl, 28, has evolved into one of England's most complete back-row forwards.
Equally effective at flanker or No. 8, he reached 50 England caps during the 2026 Six Nations while continuing to play a central role for Saracens and earning selection with the British & Irish Lions. His new contract through 2029 reflects his long-term importance to both club and country, and few loose forwards influence every phase of the game as consistently.
24. Sione Tuipulotu | Centre | Scotland | Glasgow Warriors | URC
Powerful through contact yet remarkably skillful as a distributor, Tuipulotu, 29, has become the centerpiece of Scotland's midfield. Returning from a pectoral injury in time for the 2025 Lions tour, he scored the opening try of the Test series before taking over as Scotland captain throughout the 2026 Six Nations and Nations Championship.
His leadership, physicality and partnership with Finn Russell continue to shape one of international rugby's most dangerous attacks, while Glasgow has secured his services through 2028.
23. Charles Ollivon | Flanker | France | Toulon | Top 14
Elegant in the lineout and relentless around the field, Ollivon, 33, has long been one of France's most complete forwards.
His 2025-26 season became a testament to resilience, returning from a serious ACL injury only to suffer a concussion shortly after his comeback. Ollivon nevertheless worked his way back into France's Six Nations plans, even covering lock during the championship, while resuming the Toulon captaincy. His ability to impact matches across multiple positions continues to make him one of the international game's most respected forwards.
22. Julián Montoya | Hooker | Argentina | Section Paloise | Top 14
Passionate, uncompromising and one of rugby's most respected leaders, Montoya, 32, continues to set the standard for Los Pumas. Beginning a new chapter with Section Paloise, he celebrated his 50th Test as Argentina captain before overcoming a six-week thigh injury to finish the season strongly, including a two-try performance against Toulon.
Entering the 2026 international season with 117 Test caps, Montoya remains the emotional heartbeat of Argentine rugby and one of the world's premier hookers.
21. Pieter-Steph du Toit | Flanker | South Africa | Toyota Verblitz | JRLO
Few players have combined resilience and excellence the way du Toit, 34, has throughout his remarkable career. The 2024 World Rugby Player of the Year followed another outstanding Test campaign by earning a third Player of the Year nomination and another World Rugby Dream Team selection.
A shoulder surgery after just three appearances in Japan cut short his club season and left his immediate club future unresolved, but his performances for the Springboks continue to set the global standard for blindside flank play. Even with limited club minutes, few forwards remain more influential when the biggest Tests arrive.
