The Dragons Rugby Football Club finished 15th in the United Rugby Championship and looks to reverse their fortunes in 2023-2024 when the new season begins on Oct. 21 against Edinburgh Rugby. 

The Dragons went 4-0-14 last season en route to their second-straight 15th place finish, but coach Dai Flanagan's second season with Dragons comes with an influx of talent, including two new players from the Ospreys and Scarlets, two of the other rival Welsh clubs.

How Dragons RFC Got Its Name 

The Dragons Rugby Football Club and its branding have a rocky history. 

In 2003, there were five Welsh teams. When Ebbw Vale RFC and Newport RFC merged, the club couldn’t settle on a name. There was Gwent Dragons suggested, but there were doubts if Newport RFC fans would follow the club. 

So they settled on Newport Gwent Dragons. In 2022, the club was rebranded as Dragons RFC.
