The 2023-2024 United Rugby Championship season begins on Oct. 21, 2023 as 16 of Europe and South Africa’s top professional clubs compete for the URC championship. 

Irish rugby club Munster returns as the URC champion after it beat favorite, and its biggest rival, Leinster in the semifinals and followed it with a win over defending champion DHL Stormers in the Grand Final. 

Munster and Leinster enter as the prohibitive favorites in the URC this season with a pair of South African teams, the Stormers and the Hollywoodbets Sharks, behind them.

English rugby clubs compete in the Premiership Rugby Cup, also known as the Gallagher Cup. However, URC clubs will play teams from England, as well as France, in Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup matches.

There are 16 teams in the URC. They play 18 weeks with eight games per week.
