Edinburgh Rugby Will Compete For EPRC Challenge Cup
Edinburgh did not qualify for the Champions Cup and thus will compete in the European Professional Rugby Club Challenge Cup. Edinburgh was the only Scottish team to compete in the Champions Cup in 2022-2023 after a seventh-place finish in the previous URC season.
They lost to English club Leicester in the Round of 16, 16-6 after going 3-0-1 in pool play.
The drop off in URC play last season sent them to the EPCR, where they may be poised to win the Challenge Cup.
Edinburgh faces French club ASM Clermont Auvergne on Dec. 8 at Stade Marcel-Michelin.
How Edinburgh Rugby Got Its Name
The club was founded in 1872 and became professional in 1996. They are one of two professional Scottish teams, the other being rival Glasgow Warriors.
When the Scottish teams became professional squads, they had four clubs, but eventually Edinburgh and Border Reivers merged to form the Edinburgh Reivers before they settled on just Edinburgh Rugby.
