The Round of 16 of the Investec Champions Cup began on April 5 in Twickenham Stoop in England when Harlequins F.C. beat Glasgow Warriors 28-24 to advance to the quarterfinals. 

The Quins, hailing from the Gallagher Premiership, withstood a furious second half rally that saw the Warriors, from the United Rugby Championship. The Warriors trailed 21-7 at halftime and nearly closed the gap on the Quins. 

The Harlequins will play the winner of UBB Rugby of the Top 14 and Saracens Rugby, who play at 12:30 p.m. today on April 6. 

Saturday action began in Pretoria, South Africa with a showdown between the Vodacom Bulls of the URC and Lyon of the Top 14. 

It’ll be a big rugby day in South Africa as all eyes will be on La Rochelle Rugby and the DHL Stormers in what sets up as the match of the weekend. The Stormers beat the defending two-time Investec Champions Cup winners La Rochelle in Pool 4 play in December 2023. The winner of that match will play Leinster or the Leicester Tigers, who play later this afternoon.

The rematch of the 2022 and 2023 Champions Cup final will happen next week in Dublin. 

Leinster Rugby defeated the Leicester Tigers 36-22 as Jamison Gibson-Park scored three tries and Leinster rolled to next round. 

The Tigers have been eliminated by La Rochelle the last three years, including in the 2021 quarterfinals. La Rochelle hung on to beat the DHL Stormers by one point earlier in the day, 22-21, to advance.

Manie Libbok Kick Sales Wide, La Rochelle Advances To Quarterfinals

In almost an exact same situation from pool play in December, DHL Stormers star Manie Libbok set up for a conversion to win the game and eliminate the two-time defending European Champions Cup winners, La Rochelle. 

But the kick sailed wide and La Rochelle, who trailed 13-0 at halftime in Cape Town and scored 17 unanswered points to take  the lead, held on to win. 

The Stormers scored at the 80 minute mark to cut the lead to 22-21 on a Suleiman Hartzenberg try. 

Exeter Chiefs Advance To Quarterfinals With Win Over Bath Rugby

Exeter trailed Bath 12-7 at halftime  and 15-7 a the 55 minute mark before scoring a pair of tries, one by Greg Fisilau and another by Ethan Roots en route to a 21-15 win in the Investec Champions Cup Round of 16. 

Bath led for most the game despite losing star Finn Russell in the first half. 

Exeter Chiefs Take A Lead On Bath Rugby; La Rochelle Scores 17 Straight 

The Exeter Chiefs took the with 13 minutes left in the game, 21-15 after trailing Bath Rugby the entire game. 

Meanwhile, in Cape Town, La Rochelle took the lead on the Stormers, 17-16 after scoring 17 straight second half points. The Stormers regained the lead briefly, but the official overturned a try that made the 17-16. There is 14 minutes left in the game.

La Rochelle has scored 10 unanswered points to cut into the DHL Stormers' lead with the help of Antoine Hastoy and Louis Penverne. They trail the DHL Stormers 16-10. 

At Sandy Park, Exeter Chiefs trails Bath Rugby 15-7 with 54 minutes left in the match.

The two-time defending European Champions have their work cut out for them in the second half. La Rochelle trails South African rugby power DHL Stormers 13-0 in Cape Town. The Stormers have led the entire game. Manie Libbok nailed a penalty kick and converted after a Herschel Jantjies try. 

At Sandy Park in England, another rugby power is trailing. The Exeter Chiefs trail Bath Rugby 12-7 after Bath has had several impressive defensive stands.

Scottish Rugby superstar Finn Russell, the highest paid rugby player in the world, left the game with an apparent injury in the Round of 16 of the Investec Champions Cup on April 6. 

The Bath Rugby fly half, in his first season with the Gallagher Premiership club, lef the game just before the 20th minute mark against the Exeter Chiefs in Sandy Park in England.

Russell, who just finished leading the Scottish National team in the 2024 Six Nations, left the field limping. Russell left the game with the score tied 0-0. 

The game is now 12-7, with Bath in the lead. 

Meanwhile, the Stormers lead La Rochelle 13-0 in Cape Town.

Vodacom Bulls Advances In Investec Champions Cup vs. Lyon Rugby

The Vodacom Bulls lead 21-0 before Lyon scored any points and cruised to the quarterfinals of the European Championship in Pretoria 59-19. 

The Bulls will face the winner for No. 3 Northampton and No. 14 Munster next week in the quarterfinals.

Lyon added points after halftime to cut into the Bulls' lead to make it 28-14, but the Bulls have scored again to make it 33-14. 

Vodacom Bulls Off To Fast Start Against Lyon Rugby

The Bulls are up 28-5 on Lyon at halftime in Pretoria. Sebastian de Kirk, Embrose Papier and Marcell Coetzee scored tries with Johan Goosen converting each time before Lyon was able to put any points on the board. 

Martin Page-Relo scored Lyon's only try of the half and Paddy Jackson converted.
