Investec Champions Cup Scores In Round 2: Here's Who Won

The second round of the Investec Champions Cup is underway, as the round began Dec. 15 with a pair of thrilling games decided by a combined four points. 

The Northampton Saints improved to 2-0 in Pool 3 play, handing RC Toulon a second loss, 22-19. Toulon has lost its two pool games by a combined four points. 

Meanwhile, at Stade Jean Dauger in France, the Glasgow Warriors stunned Aviron Bayonnais 12-11, picking up a massive road win. Glasgow bounced back after losing to Northampton decisively at home. 

Round 2 continued on Dec. 16 and ended Dec. 17 with a dramatic win by the DHL Stormers in Cape Town over defending champion La Rochelle.

Round 2 wraps Investec Champions Cup action in 2023 as Round 3 will begin on Jan. 13, 2024. 

Here are the scores from Round 2:

Leicester Tigers 27, Stade Francais Paris 24

The Leicester Tigers improved to 2-0-0 in Pool 4 play with a 27-24 win after leading at halftime in Paris against Stade Francais Paris, who dropped to 0-0-2 in pool play. Despite the win, Leinster Rugby and  Leicester are now tied in the Pol 4 table with nine points. 

Stade Toulousain 47, Harlequins 19

Toulouse dominated the Quins in Round 2, leading 21-12 at halftime at Twickenham Stoop. 

Exeter Chiefs 32, Munster Rugby 24

Exeter trailed Munster at halftime and 24-13 in the second half, before exploding for a pair of tries to take the lead at Sandy Park. Exeter punctuated the win with a huge try by Henry Slade within the final two minutes of the match. 

Exeter improves to 2-0-0 in Champions Cup play, while Munster falls to 0-1-1. 

Saturday, Dec. 16

DHL Stormers 21, La Rochelle 20

The two-time defending Champions Cup champions dropped to 0-0-2 in pool play when DHl Stormers star Manie Libbok nailed a kick during the 80th minute to stun La Rochelle, 21-20. 

Playing in South Africa, the Stormers improve to 1-0-1 in Pool 4 play. 

Saracens 55, Connacht Rugby 36

Saracens handed Connacht another lopsided loss in Pool 1 play. What was a close game, 21-17, at halftime turned into a rout in the second half, as Saracens exploded for 34 points. 

Union Bordeaux Bègles 36, Bristol Bears 17

UBB improved to 2-0-0 in Champions Cup pool play with a dominant win over Bristol, which dropped to 1-0-1. 

Leading 22-3 at halftime, UBB held on in the second half in front of the sold-out crowd at Stade Chaban-Delmas. 

Leinster Rugby 37, Sale Sharks 27

In a matchup of the table leaders from the United Rugby Championship and the Gallagher Premiership, Leinster took control of the match in Dublin in the second half to improve to 2-0-0 in Pool 4 play. Sale dropped to 1-0-1.  

Lyon 29, Vodacom Bulls 28

Lyon rallied from a 18-12 halftime deficit to squeak out a 29-28 win over the Bulls at Matmut Stadium De Gerland. 

It was a strong bounce back for Lyon, which lost to the Bristol Bears in Round 1 on drop goal, 36-34. The Bulls fall to 1-0-1. 

Bath Rugby 39, Cardiff Rugby 32

Bath Rugby star Finn Russell rallied from a 25-24 deficit to beat Cardiff in Wales and improve to 2-0-0 in Champions Cup play. Cardiff. which lost by 45 in the first round, drops to 0-0-2. 

Ulster Rugby 31, Racing 92 15

The star-studded Racing 92 squad fell to 0-0-2 in the Pool 2 table after Ulster Rugby jumped all over the Paris team in Northern Ireland, leading 21-5 at Kingspan Stadium at half en route to a 31-15 win. 

Friday, Dec. 15 

Northampton Saints 22, RC Toulon 19

Northampton led at halftime 10-3,  but Toulon took the lead in the second half. 

A late try by Tom Lockett put the Saints ahead 22-19, as Northampton improved to 2-0-0 in Champions Cup play.

Glasgow Warriors 12, Aviron Bayonnais 11

Another comeback in Round 2 of the Champions Cup, Glasgow trailed 8-7 at halftime in France. 

Josh McKay scored a try in the 56th minute to give the Warriors the lead. Aviron Bayonnais' Reece Hodge's kick as the final seconds ticked down sailed wide, and Glasgow hung on for the win.
