Scarlets Rugby took another tumble down the URC standings in 2022-2023, dropping from 10th place to 14th place in the league with a 6-1-11 record. The Scarlets had finished 10th and just outside the top 10 of the URC the previous season. 

The Scarlets hope the rebound begins in Week 1 when they travel to South Africa to face the Vodacom Bulls on Oct. 22. 

The Scarlets’ first two games will be against South African teams, as their first home game will be in Week 2 against the DHL Stormers.

Scarlets Odds of Winning the Grand Final

The Scarlets enter the season with 125-to-1 odds of winning the URC Grand Final according to most European betting sites. 

Who Is The Best Player For Scarlets Rugby? It’s Vaea Fifita 

The URC listed the top 100 players entering the 2023-2024 season. While the Scarlets don’t have any players in the top 20, they did have second row Vaea Fifita rank at No. 23. 

Overall, the Scarlets had three players in the top 100, including second row Sam Lousi and back row Dan Davis at No. 92.

Where Is Scarlets Rugby Based?

The Scarlets Rugby home grounds are in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire in Wales at Parc Y Scarlets. The stadium opened in 2008 and replaced Stradey Park. 

Who Coaches Scarlets Rugby? It’s Dwayne Peel 

Former Welsh Rugby star Dwayne Peel is the coach of the Scarlets. The 42-year-old was hired in 2021. 

Peel played for the Wales national team from 2001-2011, scoring 25 points in 76 matches. He played for the Scarlets from 2003-2008. 

Has Scarlets Rugby Ever Won The URC Grand Final?

Yes. The Scarlets won the URC in the 2016-2017 season and the 2003-2004 season. 

Scarlets Rugby Will Compete For The EPCR Challenge Cup

The Scarlets will once again play in the European Professional Club Rugby Challenge Cup this season. The Scarlets qualified for the EPCR Challenge Cup after finishing outside the top-eight of the URC standings. 

The Scarlets will play Castres Olympique of the Top 14 on Dec. 9 at 10:15 a.m. 

How Scarlets Rugby Got Its name? 

Originally the Llanelli Scarlets, Scarlets are one of four professional Welsh Rugby teams and are based in Llanelli. They were founded in 2003. Originally meant to represent west and northern Wales, the Scarlets have not been as visible in North Wales in recent years. 

In 2008, the club rebranded to just “Scarlets.” 

The Welsh flag features a large scarlet Dragon, which is where the nickname and logo of the rugby club comes from.
