Vannes cannot afford another season conceding roughly 34 points per match. Its scrum, collisions and defensive structure must hold up well enough to keep matches within reach of Maxime Lafage's kicking and game management.
Did Vannes Get Better This Offseason?
Yes, materially.
Vannes retained 21 of the 23 players used in the promotion final, including 14 of 15 starters. Mako Vunipola was the only starter from that XV to leave.
The club then added depth across the roster. Ugo Boniface, Giorgi Beria and Sione Mafileo strengthen the prop group. Mills Sanerivi adds another hooker option, while Matías Alemanno arrived with 99 Argentina caps.
Ioane Iashagashvili adds back-row depth. Simione Kuruvoli gives Vannes another international scrum-half, while Pierre Popelin, Raymond Nu'u, Inia Tabuavou, Nathanaël Hulleu and Joe Jonas strengthen the backs.

What Could Decide Vannes' Season?
Home performance is first. Vannes went 15-0 in home-designated regular-season matches in 2025-26, including 14 wins at Stade de la Rabine. It will not repeat that against Top 14 opposition, but it needs La Rabine to remain a major source of points.
Second is set-piece translation. Alemanno and the new front-row depth should help, but Vannes must prove its lineout and scrum can withstand stronger opposition.
