USAP finished 13th in 2025-26 at 6-20 with 29 points, then beat Provence Rugby 47-24 in the relegation playoff. The offseason added more attacking quality and front-row reinforcement, but the club still must prove it can defend consistently enough to escape the bottom end of the table.
What Has To Change For Perpignan In 2026-27?
Defense is the obvious starting point.
Perpignan conceded 797 points last season, the most in the league, and finished with a minus-247 point differential. Defensive lapses repeatedly undermined a game plan built around territory, pressure and physicality.
USAP also needs more consistency away from Stade Aimé-Giral. It won only two road games in 2025-26, leaving too much pressure on its home schedule.
Did Perpignan Get Better This Offseason?
Yes, but not without trade-offs.
Sevu Reece is the addition most likely to change the ceiling. The All Blacks wing brings elite finishing to a backline that needed more strike power.
Cédrate Gomes Sa also strengthens the front row, while other reported additions would add further depth if fully integrated.
But Perpignan lost important experience. Tommaso Allan departed for Zebre Parma, Benjamin Urdapilleta retired and longtime back Alivereti Duguivalu left for Stade Français.
That leaves a real question around game management and goal kicking even as the squad becomes more dangerous elsewhere.
What Could Decide Perpignan's Season?
The first factor is whether the defense improves enough to make close games winnable.
The second is home form. Stade Aimé-Giral can be a major advantage, and Perpignan went 9-2 there in 2024-25 before slipping last season.
The third is how USAP handles its halfback transition. Replacing Allan and Urdapilleta's control and kicking matters because missed opportunities from the tee already hurt the team in 2025-26.

Perpignan looks better equipped to move forward, but the most realistic prediction is progress rather than reinvention. USAP should be stronger, more dangerous and less dependent on one final survival match — but it still has work to do before it can be considered securely above the Top 14's lower tier.
