A year after finishing 10th, Racing climbed to fifth, won a road barrage at Pau and reached the semifinals. But a 71-17 loss to Toulouse provided an unmistakable measure of how much ground remains between Racing and the championship standard.

Now Patrice Collazo's team must show that 2025-26 was the beginning of something sustainable rather than one strong response season.
Was Racing 92's Top 14 Semifinal Run A Beginning Or A Ceiling?
Racing's improvement was substantial: a 16-1-9 regular-season record, 74 points and a return to the playoffs.
The attack was already among the league's best, producing 828 points and 101 tries. But Racing also conceded 723 points and 91 tries.
That contrast defines the next step. Another top-six finish would confirm progress. Closing the defensive gap against the Top 14's best would suggest Racing can aim higher.
Racing 92 Is Building Around A Younger Core
Racing's offseason did not bring wholesale change.
Instead, the club added Paul Costes, Benjamin Boudou, Nicolas Martins, Seru Uru and Maxime Machenaud around a developing core that includes Léo Carbonneau, Maxime Baudonne, Max Spring and Shingirai Manyarara.
Carbonneau may be the most important Racing 92 player in that transition. At 21, he started 25 matches last season, scored seven tries and became central to Racing's territorial game.
Can Racing Replace Gaël Fickou Without Losing Ground?
The most significant departure is Gaël Fickou to Toulon.
Racing still has considerable midfield options, including Joseph Manu, Josua Tuisova and newcomer Costes, but Fickou's experience and defensive presence cannot simply be replaced by adding another body.
Costes, 23, has an opportunity to become part of Racing's next core, especially with Manu scheduled to leave after the season.
Racing 92's Nomadic Home Season Creates A New Test
Racing went 12-0-1 in home-designated Top 14 games last season compared with 4-1-8 away.
That formula becomes harder to repeat in 2026-27.
Racing will play home matches across multiple venues before finishing the regular season at the renovated Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes. The Boxing Day derby against Stade Français will be the final rugby match at Plenitude Arena.
For a team that relied heavily on home results, the changing venues could become a genuine competitive variable.
Can Racing 92 Finally Defend Like A Contender?
Racing already knows it can score.
The question is whether it can stop enough opponents to turn that attack into a sustained title challenge.
New defense coach Julian Salvi inherits a unit that allowed 91 regular-season tries before Toulouse scored 10 more in the semifinal.
That may be the defining storyline of Racing 92's season. The club has young talent, attacking ability and a clearer recruitment direction. If the defense and road consistency improve, Racing can strengthen its place in the Top 14 playoffs. If not, last year's semifinal may remain more breakthrough than launching point.
