Stade Francais enters 2026-27 facing a very different question than it did a year ago. After finishing 12th in 2024-25, Paris surged to third in the Top 14 regular season, crushed La Rochelle 45-5 in the barrage and reached the semifinals.

That turnaround established Stade Français as a playoff-caliber team again. Now Paul Gustard’s side must prove the revival can survive a tougher European schedule, important departures and the inconsistencies that remained beneath an excellent 2025-26 season.
Can Stade Français Prove 2025-26 Was More Than A One-Year Rebound?
Paris finished 15-10-1 with 79 points, scoring 869 points and 113 tries. Only Toulouse scored more regular-season points.
That makes another top-six finish a reasonable expectation rather than an aspirational target. But Stade Français is not yet a proven championship favorite. Montpellier ended its season 25-15 in the semifinal, and Paris still has another step to make before last year's progress can be considered permanent.
Can Stade Français Become More Dangerous Away From Paris?
Jean-Bouin was Stade Français' greatest competitive advantage. Paris went 11-1-1 there during the regular season before dismantling La Rochelle in the playoffs.
Away from home, Stade Français went just 4-9.
That gap may be the clearest measure of whether Paris can progress from playoff team to genuine title threat. The Stade Français Top 14 season will look considerably different if Gustard's team can carry its physicality, territory control and scoring production consistently onto the road.
Did Stade Français Do Enough In The Transfer Market?
The offseason was targeted rather than transformational.
Alivereti Duguivalu arrives to help compensate for Joe Marchant's departure, while Ihaia West provides experienced depth behind Louis Carbonel. Younger forwards Thomas Bué, Tomasi Maka and Petero Mailulu add developmental upside.
Marchant and lock Baptiste Pesenti are significant losses, however. Stade Français retained most of its core, meaning improvement may depend as much on internal development as recruitment.
Can Stade Français Balance Power With Its Expanding Attack?
Gustard's Stade Français rugby identity begins with the pack: scrum pressure, lineout disruption, heavy collisions and aggressive breakdown work.
But 2025-26 showed Paris had become much more than a forward-driven side. Carbonel scored 288 Top 14 points, Léo Barré scored 12 tries and Peniasi Dakuwaqa added 10.
The challenge is maintaining that attacking growth without sacrificing territorial control or discipline, an issue that proved costly in the semifinal.
Will Champions Cup Rugby Test Stade Français' Depth?
Third place returned Stade Français Paris to the Champions Cup after a Challenge Cup campaign ended against Dragons RFC in the Round of 16.
That creates a significantly heavier challenge in 2026-27. Players such as Noah Nene, Mailulu and Bué could become increasingly important as Paris attempts to compete on two demanding fronts.
The larger question surrounding Stade Français 2026-27 is sustainability. The talent, home dominance and tactical identity are established. Now Paris must show last season was the beginning of something durable rather than the peak of an extraordinary rebound.
