Exeter Chiefs and Bath Rugby return to Gallagher PREM Rugby action on Sunday looking to respond after painful European semifinal defeats, with playoff implications adding even more significance to the latest West Country derby.

Both clubs saw their continental campaigns end last weekend and now shift full focus toward securing strong finishes domestically.

Exeter remain locked in a tense battle for a top-four place after back-to-back league defeats to Northampton Saints and Gloucester Rugby tightened the race beneath them. With Bristol Bears and Saracens both applying pressure, Rob Baxter’s side cannot afford another slip-up. Chiefs make a handful of changes, including the return of Josh Iosefa-Scott at tighthead prop, while Olly Woodburn comes into the back three following Immanuel Feyi-Waboso’s absence through concussion protocols.

Bath arrive with a stronger cushion in the standings but know every point remains critical in the battle for playoff positioning. The league’s highest-scoring side welcomes Joe Cokanasiga back on the wing, while Cameron Redpath is set for his 100th appearance off the bench. Finn Russell and Ben Spencer again steer a Bath attack that has consistently overwhelmed opponents this season.

Exeter’s tactical identity continues to revolve around pressure and territory, leading the PREM in retained kick percentage, while Henry Slade tops the league in both successful goals and total points scored. Bath counter with the league’s most explosive attack, leading the competition with 78 tries and 522 points, as Henry Arundell continues to average a league-best 12.4 metres per carry.

How The Rankings Work

These cross-competition power rankings compare professional rugby union clubs across major leagues using a standings-based rating model. Each team’s rating is shaped by record, point differential, league strength, previous rating and major knockout competition status.

Champions Cup semifinalists receive an added boost because those results provide the strongest cross-league signal, while Challenge Cup semifinalists receive a smaller adjustment. The model also uses league-specific caps and movement limits, so strong records in developing or lower-strength competitions do not outweigh proven performance in deeper leagues.

The rankings are meant to estimate current club strength across competitions, not simply mirror domestic league tables.
