Joshua Kenny is in seventh heaven after emerging as one of the breakout stars of the BKT URC season.
The 22-year-old winger only made his Leinster Rugby debut in October but has quickly become a prolific force, scoring 11 tries in just 12 appearances. Nine of those have come in URC play, leaving him tied atop the league’s try-scoring charts alongside the DHL Stormers’ Evan Roos and Connacht’s Sean Jansen.
His finishing ability earned him a call-up to the Ireland XV for their clash with England A in Limerick, where he marked the occasion in fitting fashion — with a try.

It’s been a rapid rise for the Enniskerry native, who started his rugby journey with Greystones RFC. That ascent is even more remarkable given the uncertainty he faced last summer when the IRFU ended its Sevens program.
“I really enjoyed my time there,” Kenny said. “To travel the world and play rugby was amazing. When it ended, it was a big decision whether to keep going or not.”
Kenny chose to continue and approached Leinster. After impressing in training, he made his debut off the bench against the Hollywoodbets Sharks and hasn’t looked back.
He announced himself with two tries in his first start against Zebre Parma and has since added multiple braces against Dragons, La Rochelle and the Scarlets.
“I’m just delighted I got the opportunity,” he said. “I didn’t come through the traditional academy path, but I’m still young enough to grow.”
Kenny credits his Sevens background for sharpening his decision-making and composure.
“In Sevens, every moment matters,” he said. “You might only get one chance to score. You have to stay clear-headed, even when you’re exhausted.”
That experience has translated seamlessly to the 15-a-side game, where his instincts and pace have made him a constant threat.
His form has also helped Leinster recover from a slow start to their URC title defense. The province now sits fourth and heads into a key interprovincial clash with Ulster on the back of strong momentum.
“I just try to take every game as it comes,” Kenny said. “Keep things simple.”
So far, it’s working — and the tries keep coming.
