Glasgow Warriors remained No. 1 in the latest global professional club power rankings after a fortnight that reshaped the table across the URC, Premiership, Top 14, Japan Rugby League One and Super Rugby Pacific.
The Warriors climbed to 1646 rating points after backing up a statement win over Leinster with a 31 - 10 victory against Benetton at Scotstoun. Franco Smith’s side trailed at halftime before pulling away with 21 unanswered second half points, the latest example of a team that continues to marry depth with late game punch.
Northampton Saints sit second on 1642 after edging Saracens 21 - 17 in one of the Gallagher Premiership’s defining results of the round. Toulouse slipped to third on 1639 after splitting their last two Top 14 outings, bouncing back from a heavy loss at Bordeaux Bègles with a 45 - 29 win over Montpellier. Bordeaux climbed to fourth on 1630, underlining their growing weight as a genuine European heavyweight.
Bath stayed fifth at 1622 after coming from behind to beat Sale Sharks 31 - 26, while a charging DHL Stormers side rose to sixth on 1595 following successive URC wins over Dragons and Edinburgh. Leinster, despite beating Scarlets, slipped to seventh after their loss to Glasgow, while Leicester Tigers moved into eighth on 1601 after following their PREM Rugby Cup triumph with a 36 - 17 league win over Gloucester.
The Top 14 delivered some of the most dramatic movement beneath the summit. Stade Francais surged to 1568 and 15th overall after hammering Toulon 46 - 27 and then obliterating ASM Clermont Auvergne 64 - 20. Pau also kept climbing after beating La Rochelle and Racing 92 in successive weeks, while Bayonne posted emphatic wins over Montauban and La Rochelle to continue their late season rise.
Japan Rugby League One again produced some of the most eye catching scorelines anywhere in the sport. Saitama Wild Knights moved to 1562 and 13th overall after dramatic late wins over Kubota Spears and Tokyo Sungoliath. Kubota, however, still hold strong at 1546 after crushing Toshiba Brave Lupus Tokyo 51 - 7. Kobelco Kobe Steelers remain in the hunt on 1543 after routing Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars and then winning at Shizuoka BlueRevs.
The Japanese title race looks fierce, but so does the battle for the playoff places. Tokyo Sungoliath sit 27th globally on 1519 despite their late collapse against Saitama, while BlackRams Tokyo continue to trend upward after beating Shizuoka and Mitsubishi in consecutive weeks. Toyota Verblitz also kept themselves alive with a road win over Yokohama Canon Eagles.
In the URC, Glasgow’s grip on first place is now matched by serious pressure from behind. Ulster rose to 14th globally after taking the only away win of that round against Zebre, while the Fidelity SecureDrive Lions have forced their way into the top 25 after beating Edinburgh, Dragons and then securing the South African Shield in recent weeks. The Vodacom Bulls also remain firmly in the playoff picture after a high quality 34 - 31 win over Munster in Pretoria.
Connacht’s five match winning run has pushed the western province up to 26th on 1521. Their latest win over Ospreys kept the Race to the Eight as crowded as ever, with Cardiff Rugby, the Lions, Connacht, Munster and the Hollywoodbets Sharks all still scrapping for position inside a congested middle tier.
Super Rugby Pacific, meanwhile, continues to generate sharp movement because of its shorter schedule and concentrated swings in form. The Hurricanes are now the highest ranked southern hemisphere team at 1586 and 11th overall after thumping the Reds 52 - 14 and beating the Western Force 31 - 23. Clark Laidlaw’s side has found rhythm, precision and a ruthless counterpunching edge that makes them a real global riser.
The Reds remain 16th on 1559 despite that loss, buoyed by earlier wins over the Brumbies and Fijian Drua. The Blues are up to 17th on 1550 after beating the Waratahs and Drua, while the Chiefs sit just behind after wins over the Force and Moana Pasifika offset a loss in Canberra.
The Brumbies, once among the fastest climbers in the model, have slipped to 28th on 1518 after defeats to the Drua and Waratahs. The Crusaders have stabilized at 34th following wins over the Highlanders and Moana Pasifika, while the Highlanders have recovered enough to move into the top 45 after beating the Force and Moana.
Lower down, Sale Sharks, Harlequins and La Rochelle remain tightly grouped in the mid 1400s, while Western Force, Dragons, Scarlets and Zebre are under mounting pressure. Montauban remain adrift at the bottom on 1246 after another punishing stretch in the Top 14.
What stands out most in this edition of the rankings is how tightly layered the middle of the table has become. A strong fortnight can lift a club 10 places. A poor one can erase a month of progress. At the very top, Glasgow have the lead. Behind them, the chase is crowded, credible and getting louder by the week.
How the rankings work
These power rankings are built to compare professional clubs across different leagues on one global scale. Every completed match feeds into a results based rating system that adjusts week to week. Wins and losses matter, but context matters as well. Beating a strong opponent generally carries more value than beating a struggling one, while road performances and consistency over time are also reflected in the numbers.
The model is designed to capture current strength rather than reputation. That means teams can rise quickly when form improves, but they must keep backing it up to stay near the top. Big scorelines can influence movement, though not in a way that lets one result overwhelm the broader body of work. Competition strength is also considered so that domestic and cross border leagues can sit inside the same global framework.
