Joe Roberts admits it was tough to miss out on Wales’ Six Nations squad — but he’s responded in the best possible way.
The Scarlets center is currently Wales’ top try scorer in the BKT URC with seven tries, including four in his last three matches. Now, he’s looking to carry that form into Saturday’s derby against Cardiff Rugby, even with fierce competition for places.

Roberts featured in five Tests for Wales last year but was left out of Steve Tandy’s Six Nations plans. Still, the 25-year-old has taken the feedback on board.
“I was obviously disappointed, but that’s how it is,” he said. “I’ve just got to finish the season strongly and put my best foot forward.”
That won’t be easy. The Scarlets midfield is packed with talent, including Joe Hawkins, Eddie James, Johnny Williams and rising prospect Macs Page.
“There’s a lot of competition, but it drives you to perform,” Roberts said.
A local product from Llanelli, Roberts rose through the Scarlets Academy before debuting in 2021. Now fit after battling knee injuries, he’s hitting form at the right time.
Interim director of rugby Nigel Davies praised his recent impact: “He’s been brilliant. He’s shown real pace and quality.”
With strong club form and a clear target ahead, Roberts is making his case for a return to the international stage.
