The Elite Eight of European club rugby is here as the Investec Champions Cup quarterfinals begin on April 10 at 3 p.m. ET with a massive showdown between the two best Gallagher PREM clubs.
Bath Rugby, the reigning EPCR Challenge Cup champions, host the Northampton Saints, the 2025 Champions Cup finalists. While this match won’t have anything to do with the PREM standings, the Saints have 52 points on the domestic table, one more than Bath.

It’s not the only mega showdown between two clubs from the same domestic league. The biggest match in all of club rugby — and one where the winner will almost assuredly be the “on-paper favorite” to win it all — will close the weekend on April 12.
Here are four things to know about the four Investec Champions Cup quarterfinal matches.
Bath Rugby vs. Northampton Saints, 3 p.m. ET, April 10, The Rec
4th Time These Clubs Have Played This Season
The Saints have won three of the last five meetings against Bath, including a 41-21 thumping on Dec. 27 at the Rec. That was followed by a classic 35-34 win in Northampton by the Saints. Bath beat Northampton at the start of the club season, 38-16, in September at home, and now comes the Rec rubber match on the season.
Both enter the match after close wins in the Round of 16. Northampton avoided an upset against a game Castres club at home, 49-41, while Bath beat Saracens 31-22. How similar are these squads? Both enter on five-match winning streaks.
The winner will face the winner of Sunday’s clash between Toulouse and defending champion Union Bordeaux-Bègles.
Glasgow Warriors vs. Toulon, 10 a.m. ET, April 11, Scotstoun Stadium
A First — And Second — Time for Everything
No Scottish club has ever reached the Investec Champions Cup Final, and only one — Edinburgh 14 years ago — has ever reached the semifinals. Scotland might have its best chance ever of winning the Champions Cup this year with the Glasgow Warriors.
The Warriors are nearly unbeatable at Scotstoun Stadium and have one more match there in the Champions Cup. If they beat Toulon, the No. 2 seed will host the winner of Leinster Rugby vs. Sale Sharks at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
This is a rematch of the 2013 Challenge Cup Final that Toulon won 43-19.
Leinster Rugby vs. Sale Sharks, 12:30 p.m. ET, April 11, Aviva Stadium
A Quarterfinal in Dublin, A Tradition Like No Other
The last time Leinster didn’t host a quarterfinal was in 2022. Leinster has reached the Champions Cup semifinals every year since 2021 and has not lost in the quarterfinals since 2020, when the round was played in September.
The last time they lost a quarterfinal in April was back in 2014, before the tournament was even considered in its “Champions Cup” era. Long-term and short-term history are both against the Sale Sharks.
Sale beat Harlequins to reach this match but is just 1-4 in its last five matches, including a 77-7 loss to Toulouse and a 43-29 loss to Northampton.
Leinster lost back-to-back matches in January in Scotland and Wales but has been one of the best home teams in rugby this season.
Union Bordeaux-Bègles vs. Toulouse, 10 a.m. ET, April 12, Stade Chaban-Delmas
A Top 14 Final in April?
This has been the Top 14 Final matchup the last two seasons, and Toulouse has won both times. The 2025 Top 14 Final may have been the best match in rugby — and that was with Toulouse missing Antoine Dupont.
UBB has, by a wide margin, been the best team in the ICC so far. They earned the top seed with a dominant pool play slate and beat Leicester Tigers 64-14 in the Round of 16.
Toulouse lost twice in pool play — somewhat shockingly — but both came in harsh winter conditions in Scotland and England.
To say this match could determine the Champions Cup winner isn’t a stretch. These teams have won the last two Cups. This is their second meeting in three weeks, as Bordeaux beat Toulouse 44-20. And it’s not as though Toulouse didn’t bring a strong side — while Thomas Ramos and Antoine Dupont didn’t play, Jack Willis, Romain Ntamack and Peato Mauvaka did.
This is the biggest club match of the year so far — with a Champions Cup Final feel.
