A new era has dawned in the North East. Formerly known as Newcastle Falcons, the club enters the 2025–26 Gallagher PREM Rugby season as the Newcastle Red Bulls after the global sports brand purchased the team last year.

The takeover erased debts and injected fresh resources, fueling optimism that Newcastle can climb from years at the bottom of the table into real contenders.

The Falcons famously won the Premiership at their first attempt in 1998, powered by Jonny Wilkinson’s boot. Since then, their fortunes have been uneven, with relegations and promotions marking their path. More recently, Newcastle had languished at the foot of the Premiership table, finishing last every year since 2021–22. But now, with new ownership and renewed ambition, the Red Bulls aim to redefine their future.

Newcastle Red Bulls Roster and Key Players

The 2025–26 squad mixes experienced campaigners with fresh talent. In the forwards, props like Adam Brocklebank and Eduardo Bello provide scrummaging heft, while locks like Jamie Hodgson and Tim Cardall add lineout strength. Back-row recruit Amanaki Mafi brings international pedigree and power.

In the backs, the team looks to fly-half Boeta Chamberlain for attacking direction. Centres Ethan Grayson and Max Clark bring midfield creativity, while outside backs Alex Hearle and Elliot Obatoyinbo provide finishing ability. Newcastle may not yet boast the number of Top 100-ranked internationals of their rivals, but investment and improved depth suggest progress is coming quickly.
