The Springboks trailed early after Leroy Carter scored for the All Blacks in the 17th minute, converted by Damian McKenzie. Cheslin Kolbe answered with an interception try midway through the half, before combining with Siya Kolisi and Andre Esterhuizen to cut open New Zealand’s defense again just after the break. Manie Libbok was steady from the tee, slotting five conversions and a penalty to keep the scoreboard moving.
South Africa’s relentless attacking pressure broke the match open in the final quarter. Damian Willemse scored a solo try in the 61st minute, followed by Kwagga Smith’s finish off Pieter-Steph du Toit’s offload. Replacement lock RG Snyman added another with individual brilliance, and late tries from Grant Williams and Esterhuizen sealed the result.
New Zealand, which had beaten the Springboks earlier in the tournament, struggled with ball security and discipline in key moments. Will Jordan provided attacking spark but could not turn chances into points. The loss marked a rare home defeat in Wellington for the All Blacks, while the Springboks snapped a two-match skid to keep their Rugby Championship hopes alive.
