Ardie Savea, All Blacks Beat Springboks As Eden Park Streak Alive And Well
Ardie Savea, All Blacks Beat Springboks As Eden Park Streak Alive And Well
Ardie Savea, the No. 1 rugby player in the world according to FloRugby, proved why with a huge defensive stop for All Blacks vs. South Africa.

The All Blacks reclaimed their edge at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand with a 24-17 victory over South Africa, led by a decisive defensive play from Ardie Savea in his 100th Test appearance.
The result solidifies New Zealand’s hold on the No. 1 world ranking, snapping the Springboks’ four-game winning streak in the rivalry.

New Zealand flew out of the gates with tries from Emoni Narawa and Will Jordan inside the opening 20 minutes, both set up by Beauden Barrett. Damian McKenzie added a penalty and a conversion before halftime, helping the hosts take a 17-10 lead into the break after Malcolm Marx responded with a try for South Africa.
The second half turned into a slugfest. South Africa closed the gap to 17-14 through Cobus Reinach’s try and a Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu conversion. But in the 66th minute, Quinn Tupaea finished off a fluid All Blacks move for what proved to be the decisive score, with McKenzie nailing the extras.
Ardie Savea's Heroics Cap Milestone Match
With the Springboks pressing for a late equalizer, Savea—ranked No. 1 on FloRugby’s Top 100 for 2025—delivered the game’s biggest moment. In the 79th minute, he forced a turnover near the All Blacks’ 22-meter line, effectively ending South Africa’s hopes and sealing the win.
The victory extends New Zealand’s unbeaten streak in Auckland to 60 Tests (W58, D2) and maintains their perfect record against South Africa at Eden Park since 1937. The match also saw a flurry of second-half substitutions and a yellow card to Kwagga Smith that briefly left the Boks short-handed.
New Zealand now regains momentum in The Rugby Championship following last week’s loss to Argentina. South Africa, meanwhile, will have to regroup as the title race tightens.

All Blacks Looking to Avoid Rare Back-to-Back Losses
The All Blacks are aiming to avoid consecutive defeats in men’s Tests for the first time since September 2024 after a 23-29 loss to Argentina in Round 2 of The Rugby Championship 2025. Notably, each of their last two defeats came despite leading or being tied at half-time.
