The Samoans have a long history of rugby union and have made nine straight Rugby World Cup competitions, dating back to 1991. However, they haven't gone past the pool stage since 1999.
There's reason for optimism though.
The addition of Moana Pasifika to Super Rugby Pacific has opened more doors for Samoans to play elite club rugby closer to home, instead of heading to the France, USA or other leagues.
Moana Pasifika had some rough years from the outset, but finished seventh in the most recent Super Rugby Pacific campaign, just outside of playoff position.
