The 2025 Top 14 Grand Final brings together two French rugby powerhouses on a collision course, and this time, there’s history—and revenge—on the line.

Just weeks after Bordeaux-Bègles stunned Toulouse in a thrilling Champions Cup semifinal and went on to claim its first European crown, the two sides meet again on French soil, this time with the Bouclier de Brennus at stake.

Toulouse, the most decorated club in Top 14 history, is chasing redemption and a record-extending domestic title. But standing in the way is a red-hot UBB squad, fresh off its European triumph over Northampton in the Investec Champions Cup.

From the tactical minds of Lucu and Jalibert to the finishing brilliance of Penaud and Bielle-Biarrey, Bordeaux has become one of rugby’s most feared attacking units.

But Toulouse, led by Ntamack, Ramos and a pack forged in tradition, will not go quietly.

Full-Time Report

Stade Toulousain completed a remarkable three-peat in the Top 14, defeating Union Bordeaux-Bègles 39-36 after 100 minutes of extraordinary rugby at the Stade de France on Saturday.

In what may go down as the greatest Top 14 final ever, it was Toulouse’s forward dominance and the unerring boot of Thomas Ramos that proved decisive in a dramatic overtime showdown.

With the score locked at 36-36 deep into extra time, Toulouse’s pack blasted through a Bordeaux breakdown to win a critical turnover penalty.

Ramos stepped up and calmly slotted the winning kick in the 100th minute to seal a record 24th French championship for the club.

The match was a back-and-forth affair from the opening whistle, with Bordeaux striking first through the boot of captain Maxime Lucu.

Ramos responded for Toulouse, and the teams traded blows throughout a frantic first half that ended 20-16 in Toulouse’s favor, after a try from Jack Willis capped off a rolling maul just before the break.

Anthony Jelonch and Willis crossed in the opening 40 for Toulouse, while Bordeaux hit back with a slick kick-and-chase try finished by Damian Penaud and steady goal-kicking from Lucu.

Bordeaux came flying out of the tunnel in the second half, with Jalibert slicing through for a superb try to put UBB ahead 23-20, but Toulouse hit back almost immediately.

Willis powered over for his second try, followed by another Ramos penalty after a yellow card to Pierre Bochaton for a high tackle on Thibaud Flament.

Despite trailing 33-23, Bordeaux rallied once again.

Petti finished a dazzling counter-attack in the 70th minute, and Lucu's late penalty sent the match into overtime tied at 33-33.

As fatigue set in, both sides struggled to land the knockout blow in extra time.

Ramos nudged Toulouse in front with a penalty in the 95th minute, only for Bordeaux to level again at 36-36.

But with just seconds remaining in the 100th minute, Toulouse’s forwards produced one final surge at the breakdown, winning a crucial penalty. Ramos, as he had done all night, stepped up and calmly delivered the final act of a truly epic contest.

Toulouse’s power game, deep bench and Ramos’s 24-point haul proved the difference in a match that saw both sides lay everything on the line.

Bordeaux, chasing a maiden title, was valiant but ultimately fell just short in one of the most memorable finals in French rugby history.

Halftime Report

Stade Toulousain leads Bordeaux-Bègles 20-16 at halftime in the Top 14 final at the Stade de France after a pulsating first half that saw momentum swing wildly between the two heavyweight rivals.

Backed by a sold-out crowd, Toulouse struck a psychological blow just before the break, as England international Jack Willis powered over from a rolling maul in the 39th minute.

Thomas Ramos added the conversion to cap a seven-point swing that handed the defending champions a four-point lead at the interval.

It was a fitting end to a frantic opening 40 minutes.

Toulouse’s famed forward power already had been on display when No. 8 Anthony Jelonch barreled over for the first try of the match in the 32nd minute, converted by Ramos to give Toulouse a brief 13-9 advantage.

But Bordeaux hit back almost instantly.

Maxime Lucu, sharp all evening, threaded a perfectly weighted grubber for Damian Penaud to chase down and finish in the 35th minute. Lucu converted, nudging UBB back in front, 16-13.

Lucu’s boot was instrumental early, landing penalties in the 3rd, 9th and 26th minutes to keep Bordeaux ticking over. Ramos responded in kind for Toulouse, slotting kicks in the fifth and 21st minutes to keep the scoreboard tight.

Despite Toulouse’s late surge, Bordeaux showed grit in defense and attacking spark through Lucu and Penaud.

With both sides playing to their strengths—power versus pace—the second half promises more fireworks.

The defending champions are halfway to a record-extending 24th French title, but Bordeaux, chasing its first, remain firmly in the fight.

Philosophical Differences

Saturday’s final offers a compelling contrast in style.

Toulouse is set to lean on forward power and breakdown dominance, with Graou expected to keep things structured and tight early on.

Bordeaux, under former Toulouse man Yannick Bru, will look to play with width and speed, using Jalibert and Lucu to stretch the game and unleash Penaud and Bielle-Biarrey out wide.

While UBB has the edge in recent meetings, Toulouse brings championship know-how and depth off the bench.

With both sides carrying form and firepower, Saint-Denis is set for a tactical battle worthy of the Top 14’s biggest stage.

Point Machines

Louis Bielle-Biarrey is back from concussion to start for Bordeaux in place of Pablo Uberti, his 33 tries this season speaking volumes.

Julian Marchand starts at hooker for Toulouse, having scored in last year’s final, with Peato Mauvaka missing out through injury.

Paul Graou continues at scrumhalf in Antoine Dupont’s absence, aiming to steer a powerful Toulouse XV featuring Ntamack, Kinghorn and Chocobares.

Mola has named a formidable bench including Baille, Meafou and Akhi.

Bordeaux’s only other change sees Sipili Falatea join the bench.

These are two fully loaded squads primed for a brutal, high-stakes contest.

History Beckons For Champions

Record 23-time champion Toulouse faces Champions Cup winner Bordeaux in a seismic Top 14 final at the Stade de France.

It’s a rematch of last year’s decider, where Toulouse stormed to a 59-3 win in Marseille.

This time, UBB arrives with momentum and revenge on the mind.

UBB has beaten Toulouse three times this season, including a 35-18 European semifinal, and is chasing its maiden domestic crown.

Toulouse, meanwhile, topped the table by 12 points and is eyeing a third straight Top 14 title.

Expect fireworks in Saint-Denis as old rivals meet again with silverware and pride on the line.
