Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London will be rockin’ May 24 when the Hollywoodbets Sharks and Gloucester Rugby meet to decide the champion in this year’s European Professional Club Rugby Challenge Cup. 

After four rounds of play during the season, they were two of the squads to advance from the 22-team field to the Round of 16. They then rolled through the quarterfinals and semifinals to earn their spots in the final showdown, which will get underway at 3 p.m. Eastern.

Gloucester, which is representing England’s Gallagher Premiership Rugby, is looking for its third Challenge Cup win, with the first two coming in the 2005-2006 season and 2014-2015 campaign. 

Gloucester last played for the title during the 2017-2018 season, losing to Cardiff for its second consecutive runner-up finish. Gloucester lost to Stade Francais the year before. 

The Sharks are representing South Africa and the BKT United Rugby Championship and are looking for their first Challenge Cup title. South Africans were first invited to the competition for the 2022-2023 season.

To reach the final, the Sharks defeated ASM Clermont Auvergne in a 32-31 nailbiter May 4, and Gloucester topped Benetton Rugby later that day, 40-23.

What Is The EPCR Challenge Cup?

The annual EPCR Challenge Cup is the second tier of championship events organized by European Professional Club Rugby, joining the top level, the Investec Champions Cup.

Both include teams from England’s Gallagher Premiership Rugby, France’s Top 14 and the United Rugby Championship. 

The teams qualify for the competitions based on their performances within their own leagues, along with how they performed in the previous year’s Champions Cup or Challenge Cup. Teams that do not qualify for the Champions Cup are eligible to play in the Challenge Cup.

For the 2023-2024 season, the Champions Cup included 24 teams (from England, France, South Africa, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales), while 22 played in the Challenge Cup.
