The 2023 Rugby World Cup final was expected to feature new teams battling for their first World Cup title. 

But that’s not what happened. Instead, the two most prestigious national teams in the world will play for the most Rugby World Cup titles all-time. 

New Zealand Rugby, which entered the World Cup as the No. 4 team in the world and lost its first-ever pool play game to open the tournament in September, will play for a fourth Rugby World Cup crown.

The Rugby World Cup is played every four years. The next World Cup is in 2027. World Rugby announced on Oct. 24 that the field will expand to 24 teams. 

Where Is 2027 Rugby World Cup?

The 2027 World Cup will be in Australia. It'll be the third time the event has come to Australia --  in 1987, the first World Cup, and then in 2023. In 1987, Australia hosted the event with New Zealand. 

When Is The Rugby World Cup Coming To The United States?

The Rugby World Cup is coming to the United States in 2031. Sites have yet to be announced for the event. 

The U.S. has qualified for seven Rugby World Cups, but not in 2023. They will automatically qualify for the 2031 Rugby World Cup as the host nation.
