Three New Ranked Teams!
No surprise that this early in the season we see some drastic moves, and we did throughout the division, despite seeing most of the Cardinals and all of the Southern conferences get their games Florenced out.
As a result, three teams previously not ranked are in the Top 50. All three have been ranked in previous years and USM&T, Providence, and RIT all got there by beating a ranked team.
The biggest improvements are Sacred Heart, who put in a really nice result on previous #24 Coast Guard, Vermont, who smacked around a previously highly-regarded Hartford team, and William Paterson, which beat a Marist team that looks very strong this year.
Two of the teams that lost to the big improvers - Hartford and Coast Guard - get dinged hard in their own rankings. Two teams that lost to unranked teams - Pitt State and Geneseo - get dinged hard for losing to unranked teams. That might be a shade harsh on Geneseo - the result was 15-10 and there's a lot of rugby to be played. They can play their way back up.
The two teams out of those six that didn't get nailed - Middlebury and Marist - held relatively steady because Middlebury wasn't ranked super-high anyway, and lost by a point, and Marist lost 26-16 to a team ranked only six spots lower. Not that big a deal.
Team to watch? Northern Michigan. And a shout-out to the Tri State teams to report their scores faster.
