Pay Attention To Lions: Lindenwood Still #1 For A Reason

Not much movement this week as several teams didn't play. The one game that could have shaken things up was Quinnipiac vs Norwich. We were looking for Norwich, specifically, to make its case to be in the Top 15. In the end the result was 41-26 for Quinnipiac - just enough to keep Norwich in the conversation, but not enough, yet, to drop someone else out.

Notre Dame helped by winning against Indiana.

Dartmouth's win over Brown was expected. Certainly of note was Lindenwood's defeat of Life West. The Gladiatrix beat the Life Running Eagles last week, so that result, combined with this past weekend's result for Lindenwood, shows a clear separation between #1 and #2.

"It was great as a team to get out and get our first hit out of the season against such a quality team," said Lindenwood head coach Billy Nicholas. "This was one of the most competitive matches of rugby I have had the pleasure to coach and definitely have a lot of respect for the Life West program, coaching staff, and players."

Six different players accounted for the Lindenwood scoring, led by 2017-18 Sorensen Award-Winner McKenzie Hawkins (she scored a try and six conversions), Nika Paogofie-Buyten scored two tries.

"One of the things we talk about as a team is being better than the year before, that's a measurable for us," said Nicholas.  "Right now we are on track, we have an even stronger foundation match one this year than we did match one last year and that is what we look forward to building from.  You can just sense the momentum and motivation we have at each training session and match.  It's something quite special."

Seems to be.
