Could We See Sonny Bill & Mike Tyson In The Ring?

At ripe old age of 53, Mike Tyson is gearing for a return to the boxing ring. But don't be fooled by his years, the legend of the ring has been training ferociously over the past few years and looks set for a genuine comeback. His opponent? Rumors are suggesting the great Sonny Bill Williams as a potential combatant.

Tyson has been training with famed MMA trainer Rafael Cordeiro for the past month, and the specialist believes in four months he'll be ready to take on fighting again.

“The power is different level,” said Cordeiro. “I have trained a lot of heavyweights in my career, with not a lot of respect for everybody, but he is almost as powerful as Wanderlei Silva is right now."

Behind the proposed bout is Australian boxing promoter Brian Amatruda, who has offered Tyson upwards of $1 million to take on either Sonny Bill, former rugby league star Paul Gallen, or retired Aussie rules footballer Barry Hall.

The Melbourne-based promoter believes he could swing a crowd of 10,000 or more at Melbourne Park, or even 30,000 at Princes Park for the fight.

"He might be 53 years old but he's still a huge name and any of those blokes - Hall, Gallen or Sonny Bill - would jump at the chance to get into the ring with him," Amatruda says. "I'd make it part of a card with a world title fight for Tayla (Harris) on it. It would be enormous. Not just a fight, it would be an event."

From the sounds of it, Amatruda is serious about offering Tyson big money.

"The first thing I did was contact (celebrity agent) Max Markson and ask him to offer Tyson $1million. Max brought him to Australia in 2012. He gets on well with him and his wife but the main thing is that he got him a visa to get into the country back then and that's the key."

Williams Is No Slouch

Sonny Bill Williams is just about the baddest man in rugby. Having started his professional career as a rugby leaguer, SBW quickly became one of the best players in the code on the planet. He was attracted over to play rugby union, joining the All Blacks and quickly becoming one of the best union players in the world as well.

In his career as a rugby union player, Williams has won two World Cups with the All Blacks, and nearly secured a third one this past autumn. He recently called it a day on his union career, and has returned to rugby league, where he signed on with the Toronto Wolfpack after the last World Cup.

However, what stands as one of Sonny Bill's most impressive sporting achievements happens to be off of the rugby pitch. Having picked up boxing in 2009, Sonny Bill Williams has accumulated a perfect 7-0-0 record in the ring, fighting at the heavyweight level.

Sonny Bill is both a New Zealand Professional Boxing Association Heavyweight Champion and a WBA International Heavyweight Champion, alongside being one of the best rugby players, both league and union, over the past two decades.

Should the two meet, it would be a mouthwatering occasion sure to whet the appetites of sports fans around the world desperate for some quality entertainment!
