The long wait finally came to a close on Saturday, as Old Glory DC played its first match of 2020, a friendly against collegiate side Navy.

Fans from all over the region packed The St. James indoor stadium and were treated to a 90-21 victory over one of college rugby's top programs in the United States.

While, yes, one would certainly expect an MLR side to handle a D1A collegiate team, Old Glory's 57-point second half is a good sign with regards to the depth and fitness across the squad.

The Midshipmen from Navy came out of the gates firing, scoring two of the game's first three tries, but a strong finish to the half from Old Glory left the scoreboard reading 33-14 at intermission.

In the second half, DC's tempo and pace of play overwhelmed Navy, and Old Glory was able to run away with it in the end.

This week, Old Glory faces a much stiffer test as they take on fellow MLR newcomer Rugby ATL in their second preseason friendly.

Rugby ATL already looks to be pretty strong; the men from Atlanta defeated the NOLA Gold in their first hit-out, before playing the Colorado Raptors the following week in a tight contest, falling 32-26.

We'll see what Old Glory is really made of this coming weekend, but it appears they'll be in the thick of it in the Eastern conference, particularly when they get The Beast, Tendai Mtawarira, into some game action.
