Beltway Elite and Scion rolled to victory in the first qualifier of the Mid-Atlantic sevens season, the Rites of Spring 7s in Baltimore Saturday.

Both teams are now in strong position to qualifier for the national championships, but will have to continue that form in the two remaining points-earning qualifiers in Wilmington, DE July 13 and at Northern Virginia July 20.

Women

Scion was almost untouchable, running out the most stonewalling defense of the tournament and shutting out the DC Furies in the final 26-0.

The lineup of Milla Anderson, Emily Fulbrook, Ally Gallagher, Camille Johnson, Kirn Kaur, Katie Lutton, Colleen McAdam, Jade McGrath, Dana Maschisi, Kiki Morgan, Emma Murphy, Maggie Myles, Kat Ramage, Lauren Rhode, Nikki Snyder, and Caitlin Weigel together look once again like playoff contenders.

Philadelphia defeated NOVA for 3rd.

Men

The Beltway Elite had to work for it, but took the spoils eventually. Beltway and NAV 7s tied 19-19 in pool play, and it wasn't much different once they got through to the final. Beltway took the championship match 15-12.

Veteran Dave Hightower was once again a supreme finisher, and new recruit Dmontae Noble, who will be on the USA Pan-Am Games squad, was a terror as usual. But the guy who made it all work was Will Taylor. The halfback/sweeper played every minute of every game and was solid throughout.

NAV is in very good shape for qualification now, while one team that surprised was the Washington Rugby Club, which has recruited strongly for the summer and could be a dark horse.
