Social Media WrapUp: Hero of Web 2.0

The intangibles of our great game were put on full Web 2.0 display this week with the subtle heroism of Alun Wyn Jones and the resurfacing of an old clip of Georgia Page’s bleeding face. Also, are these wings getting harder to defend?

Not All Heroes Wear Capes

Moments like this are what make rugby such a special game. Beyond captaining Wales to a Six Nations Grand Slam and taking home player of the Six Nations recognition; Alun Wyn Jones captivated social media when he was photographed wrapping the young and shivering Welsh “mascot” in his warmup suit during the Welsh anthem.

Alun Wyn Jones carved his name deep into rugby lore.

As did Georgia Page once upon a time.

So this video isn’t from this week necessarily, but it resurfaced and immediately blew back up. For female rugby players everywhere, this clip of Georgia Page making tackles with a bleeding face show’s just how tough rugby players are.

Back Three Mastery

Now, we know back three players can make defenders look silly. So here’s a montage of some of the shiftiest back three players in the world.

It took seven defenders to track down Ollie Thorley.

How about a 95 meter try?! Seriously, you'd think these wings would tire out, but sometimes there’s just too much space to defend.

Sinoti Sinoti has a name (and a step) so nice he used it twice!

Gold Star Finish

Such heartbreak for Austin Elite as they were just a minute and a half away from their first victory of 2019. Nonetheless a gold star finish for the NOLA Gold’s utility substitute, Michael Baska.

This try put NOLA atop the league table and Nick Feakes atop his teammate's shoulders.
