The USA Men's 7s team collapsed, finally, in the semifinals in Vancouver; a defeat that was in the cards all weekend.

The Eagles looked slow, beat up, and unable to exploit gaps, and France got in their face, forced errors, and scores five tries in a 33-5 rout.

The Eagles really didn't look like scoring, and the second try, passed the ball back and back and back until they were stuck in their own in-goal, and gave up a turnover for the simples of French touchdowns.

It was shades of the roughest days of the USA team, but born not out of inability to lack of desire, but simply because, sometimes, it happens.

USA captain Madison Hughes said the play hasn't been up to the team's standards, and that they didn't play well from the start. He wouldn't say that the season has worn on the team.

He did say "last weekend [in Vegas] was a big weekend; a lot of physicality," but added that his team's issues were at the beginning of games, not the end.

The USA did appear to miss Danny Barrett and Perry Baker. Both of those players have their own unique ability to get the team going forward. The good news? Marcus Tupuola got the ball with no space on the outside and outpaced everyone for a try at the end of the game. He showed he has the potential to be pretty special.

But right now, this is a case of a team running on fumes, and still making the top four. That's impressive in itself.
