Single-School California State Final Set For March 9

California will get a state-wide Boys Single-School state rugby championship; on March 9, single-school teams from Rugby Northern California and the Southern California Interscholastic Rugby Federation will play in the first ever California Rugby State Championship.

The first-place match will feature Jesuit of Sacramento versus St. John Bosco. Bosco recently won the SCIRF title over Saint Augustine. The third place match will see De La Salle play Saint Augustine. Both of these exciting matches will be played at UCLA as the curtain-raiser for the UCLA versus Cal game.

“This inaugural game sets a standard for all rugby teams to work towards,” said Rugby NorCal executive director Lou Stanfill. “For rugby to continue to develop in California, we need to align our vision and standards with those of the CIF. This championship signifies the direction that we would like our high school aged programs to work towards: school supported teams pushing for higher standards for coaches, players, admins, and supporters to grow our game within the core values for which it stands.”

Fans who would like to attend the California Rugby State Championship games can purchase $10 admission tickets at the gate at the North Atheltic Field on the UCLA campus on March 9th.

The third/fourth match will begin at 11am and the Championship match will begin at 1pm.  Ticket purchase includes admission to the Cal vs. UCLA game at 3pm. Matches will be streamed live through UCLA Rugby’s website courtesy of the UCLA Rugby Club.
