Argentina XV Ignacio Fernández Lobbe has named the same starting 15 to face the USA that took care of Brazil last week.

This is certainly the game of the Americas Rugby Championship—Argentina XV won the ARC in 2016 with the only blemish being a 35-35 tie with the USA. The teams tied again in 2017, but the USA took the title thanks to bonus points. Last year, the USA escaped 17-10 and went on to win the ARC with a 5-0 record.

"We had a very good game with Brazil and all the players finished in good condition,” said Lobbe (translated from the Spanish). “Since the start of the preseason I told the players that I want them to compete in training and matches so that I have the difficult choice when selecting the team. This week they did not let up and that is why we chose the same starting lineup.”

There are changes on the subs bench, as Javier Corvalan sustained a shoulder injury, opening up a spot for Jaguares prop Santiago García Botta.

In addition, Teo Castiglioni and Marco Ciccioli are on the bench.

"Javi Corvalán's injury saddened us for all the effort he had been making,” said Lobbe, who called up Jaguares coach Gonzalo Quesada (the Jaguars play in Super Rugby) looking for a replacement.

Lobbe acknowledged that this is likely the toughest game of the ARC for his squad.

"The United States is the rival to beat,” said the coach. “It is a great challenge that we have and we have studied it a lot during this week. They have a South African coach who likes to impose a penetration game and become strong in the maul.”

Lobbe said playing at home might give his side an advantage.

MLR Nationality Breakdown By Position: New England Freejacks

New England Free Jacks

The other day I was thinking about fly-halves in the MLR -- since that is my position -- and I got to thinking how few American players there are playing fly-half in Major League Rugby. The only ones I could think of off the top of my head were Ben Cima (SEA), Scott Dean (SEA), Tadgh Leader (NE) and Zinzan Elan-Puttick (AUS) -- and it's worth noting that both Leader and Elan-Puttick grew up playing rugby in Ireland and South Africa respectively.
