USA flyhalf AJ MacGinty is close to getting back on the field, but he's not quite ready.

Fans of Sale and the Eagles want the former Life University flyhalf back soon, as his playmaking, defense, attacking flair, and goalkicking are all exactly what both teams need.

For the Eagles, this may be even more of an issue given that Will Hooley went down injured last week. That leaves Will Magie (who led the USA in points in 2018), and Ben Cima as potential wearers of the #10 jersey.

The USA is also looking at other players who could suit up at flyhalf.

MacGinty told FloRugby he is coming along nicely.

"Doing well thanks," he said in response to our question on his condition. "Back in full training and beginning to hit some pads which is great. Shoulder feels strong. More intense training this week to test where I’m at."

That strongly implies he's not game ready. Meanwhile, as noted in the video above, USA head coach Gary Gold doesn't want to rush it, in part because he doesn't want to hurt the Eagles' relationship with Sale.

"The challenges with AJ is if he's going to be able to get any game time before he joins us," Gold told FloRugby. "And we've got to be fair to the club. We can't have a club like Sale spend all this time preparing and he comes into camp and we play him first time up and he's not ready."
