Huget Double Closes Gap on Top 14 Leaders Clermont

France winger Yoann Huget scored twice as Toulouse beat Stade Francais 49-20 to close the gap to three points on Clermont at the summit of the Top 14 table on Sunday.

Veteran Huget transferred his impressive recent international form to his club as Stade Francais' ill-discipline cost them dearly with four players being sent to the sin-bin.

Another of Toulouse's try scorers Romain Ntamack said his side took full advantage of the visitors' mistakes.

"We made the most of their yellow cards but it was us who caused that by playing a lot.

"It's a good thing before getting back to the European Cup, we wanted to make a point and we did that," he added.

France's Julian Marchand and Maxime Mermoz, as well as Ntamack and Francois Cros also scored for the home side to claim a bonus point.

The Parisians' tries came from forwards Sekou Macalou and Hanro Liebenberg.

Stade Francais -- backed by German billionaire Hans-Peter Wild -- have only one win in five games ahead of a crucial Challenge Cup double header against the Ospreys during the next fortnight.

Toulouse face Wasps twice in the Champions Cup and a couple of victories could secure a quarterfinal berth in the elite European competition.

Stade Francais received the first of its yellow cards as Paul Gabrillagues was sin-binned for tackling an opponent without the ball. Macalou, Stephane Clement and Jonathan Danty also spent time on the touchline for foul play.

Two former Toulouse players were making their first appearances at Stade Ernest Wallon after Yoann Maestri and Gael Fickou joined the capital city club this summer.

Maestri was at fault for one of three first-half Thomas Ramos penalty goals.

Captain Maestri, who has 65 caps for France, challenged his teammates to put the poor run of form right.

"We were too ill-disciplined and it made their work easier. Congratulations to Toulouse who played well even if we were too restless with our mistakes," he said.

"We're in a difficult period right now and it's during these types of periods that we see what our squad is made of," Maestri added.
