New Zealand re-established its dominance in women's sevens and the USA did enough to stay among the top teams as the Dubai Women's Sevens concluded on Friday.

A brace of tries from HSBC Player of the Final Tyla Nathan-Wong secured a fourth title in seven years for New Zealand at the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens 2018 on Friday.

New Zealand had to work hard for their 26-14 victory over Canada, who were playing in their first Cup final at The Sevens Stadium in series history, but have now won their last 30 matches on the series and 39 in a row in global competitions.

New Zealand captain Sarah Goss was named player of the tournament and said afterwards: “I feel amazing – Dubai is one of my favorite places to play. It’s been an amazing couple of days and I’m proud of the efforts of the girls. The new girls thrived and they will get better and better with the opportunity.”

The Black Ferns Sevens' fifth tournament title in a row on the series means they have increased their lead in the standings to six points over Canada (34) with USA third on 32 and defending series champions Australia now fourth on 28 points after winning the bronze medal in Dubai.

The key game for the USA was the quarterfinal matchup with France. As happened in Glendale, this was a close one between the two, but very different in that in Colorado, the Eagles scored at the death to win it. This time around, tries from Lauren Doyle and Kristen Thomas put the USA up 12-0. Alev Kelter's conversion would prove crucial as the Eagles struggled to close out the game.

Caroline Drouin and Anne Cecile Ciofani scored in quick succession, and only the fact that France couldn't convert preserved the 12-10 USA win.

New Zealand shut out the Eagles in the semis, and in another tight contest with Australia, the USA fell 26-21 in the Bronze Medal Match. Lily Dick's try at the end of regulation broke a 21-21 tie and won it 26-21 for the Aussies.

Doyle joined three Black Ferns - Gayle Broughton, Kelly Brazier, and Goss - as well as Canada's Bianca Farella and Brittany Benn, and Australia's Evania Pelite, on the tournament dream team.
