USA MNT captain Blaine Scully posted a touching tribute to his late father on social media after the Eagles beat Romania 31-5 Saturday in Bucharest.

Scully's father, Steve Scully, died 24 years ago on November 17, the day the USA played Romania. In his post, Scully recognized the anniversary.

Personally, it was an emotional and satisfying day on a few different levels. November 17, 2018 marked 24 years since my Dad passed away. And honestly, I can’t think of a better way to honor his memory than to do what I love with this special group of men. Sport has always been my connection to him and felt him with me yesterday. Representing the United States has been the honor of my life and taking home the Pershing Cup from Romania definitely felt right. Team continued to demonstrate toughness and resilience in challenging circumstances, extending our 2018 test match winning streak to 9 in a row. But more important than that, we are continuing to improve, which is always the core objective. Focus on the process day in and day out. Pride the performance over the result and the score will take care of itself. Thanks to all for the continued support and efforts. We know we are only the tip of the spear. Onward we go.

Steve Scully was an attorney, and before that a standout safety for Santa Clara University - Blaine posted a photo of his dad playing football. Steve Scully died of a heart attack in 1994. Blaine was only six at the time. His mother, Jan, was just embarking on a hugely successful career as a district attorney, and raised her two kids.

Later, Scully elaborated on his post with FloRugby.

"I know the date when it comes every year and it's obviously an emotional time," he said. "I think he would have appreciated what we did in the game. But I am happy. My mother remarried and I had a dad growing up."

But, he added, the date was also a chance for him to give a nod to Jan Scully.

"To me, my mom will always be my hero."
