For the most part the FloRugby D2 college rankings survived what can be a brutal Men’s Round of 16.

Of the eight games played, the higher-ranked team won six.

NC State (#6) took down SUNY Geneseo (#32) 76-24. UNC-Charlotte (#5) defeated William Paterson (#21) 57-17. 

The defending champion UW-Whitewater Warhawks (#1) won fairly comfortably over Montana State (#15) 54-26, and #7 Bethel survived a tight first half to run away from #17 UW-Milwaukee 37-17 (it was 22-17 into the 2nd half).

Vermont (#2) defeated #16 Virginia to make the final eight in a tight one that almost went the other way. Virginia led late and UVM had to battle back from deep in their own half to score and win it 41-39.

UVm will take on #4 Iowa Central CC, who beat #9 North Dakota State 42-17.

The two rankings upsets weren’t major shockers. Queens (#12) beat #3 Norwich, but the 27-24 scoreline shows how close the game was. Just as close was Villanova vs Marquette, a game in which #11 beat #10 47-43.

So the quarterfinal matchups for Sunday are as follows:

Whitewater vs Bethel

Queens vs Villanova

NC State vs UNC-Charlotte

Iowa Central CC vs Vermont

The winners of those games will go to the semifinal-final weekend Dec 1-2 in Charlotte, NC, which will be shown LIVE on FloRugby.
