First of all, Shaun Davies is not expected to be able to return to action. The USA's starting scrumhalf received a bad concussion - head coach Gary Gold's words were "he is severely concussed" - when on the receiving end of a tip tackle by Pari Pari Parkinson in Saturday's game against the Maori All Blacks.

The replacement at scrumhalf for Davies, Nate Augspurger, discovered a tear in his quad on Friday morning and was a late scratch for the game, forcing Tim Maupin (above) to come in for him. He is not expected to return. Luke Hume, who was going to have his shot at starting at fullback, was also a late scratch due to a hamstring problem, and those are often very slow to heal.

Meanwhile, the Eagles get some overseas pros back. Samu Manoa, Blaine Scully, Joe Taufete'e, Titi Lamositele, Bryce Campbell, and Paul Lasike are all expected to be available. Overseas pro Eric Fry, who was expected to be with the teams starting in Chicago, suffered a knee injury while playing for his club in France, and is out.

Big Paul Lasike Is Just What We Want To See

"It's good to have them back, but it won't change how we play," said No. 8 Cam Dolan. "It won't change the systems we've put in place."

The additions give Gold some options, especially at center, where, on Saturday, Gold was forced to insert flanker Tony Lamborn when Audsley had to go off. The potential of a Campbell-Lasike starting midfield has to be a good thought for the coach.

Similarly, Lamositele and Taufete'e offer options in the front row, with Taufete'e's running ability an added bonus. The big question is scrumhalf, where Ruben de Haas showed an impressive 42 minutes for the Eagles on Saturday. However, who will be his backup? Expect a callup to be announced soon.
