While the Rugby East may have decided its fate last week, other D1A conferences have some questions to answer.

Red River Showdown

The Red River North is down to Oklahoma and Arkansas and the second half will see an intriguing contest between those two.

But this weekend it's down to who is best in the South. Baylor, 2-0, will face 2-1 Texas A&M. 

"Going into this matchup we have had a fairly easy go with our first two opponents so it's going to be a real test to go up against a quality opponent like the Aggies," said Bears Director of Rugby Mason Herin. "We feel like we have the upper hand in athleticism so we are looking to push the tempo on attack and force them into some tough decision making from our defensive pressure."

A&M is the defending conference champ, but head coach James Lowrey doesn't expect it all to be automatic this time around.

"Baylor has always been tough for us and the past two years have proven only more difficult," said Lowrey. "Last year is last year and the boys are looking forward to this year. We're confident in the process we have established and it's proven well when we can stay engaged and stick to it and it's gone awry when it hasn't, so it's a matter of playing for 80.

The difference? Perhaps experience. Baylor was good last year, and most of the squad is back this year, with captain Stewart Morris leading the way.

"Our team hasn't had much turnover from last season and many of our guys are champing at the bit to get another shot at A&M since losing the conference championship to them last year. We want to bring the title back to Waco this year."

Liberty Finale

Delaware's defeat of Fordham followed by a very close 22-12 loss to Iona shows the Blue Hens may be on the rise. AIC, for its part, has torched some teams but its offense hasn't fared especially well against aggressive defenses.

If you're not careful, though, the YellowJackets can hurt you. New crossover sensation Chandler Cotton has a ton of pace and scored seven, that's right, seven tries against Stony Brook last week.

Delaware's fortunes seem to center around former Pelham standout HSAA scrumhalf Luke Persanis, who likes to push the pace and is always (except for when Iona keyed on him effectively_ in the middle of the scoring.

This game doesn't have an effect on the I-95 division but does perhaps decide who would finish second behind Iona, and that has an effect on matchups for November's Challenge Series.

Arkansas State vs Notre Dame

ASU is quietly building a very formidable time for the 2018-19 season. The program's freshman class is very strong, and ASU has been winning some very winnable games. This test? It will be a good measuring stick. The Red Wolves are favored, but an improving Notre Dame has a statement to make.

Commander-in-Chief Trophy

Army caps off its enormously successful fall with a clash with Air Force. The Air Force Academy's fall has been weird. AFA had two very close losses to Colorado State and a very close win over Colorado, and then followed that up with a 49-8 blowout of the Buffs. 

Center Jace Miller scored three tries in that game and it's an indication that the Zoomies might have figured out their offense. 

Air Force lost 38-22 to Navy in the first game of the three-match series among the military academies. This weekend's game is part of that. If Air Force wins this game, Navy is in very good position to win the series. If Army wins or ties, it sets up a winner-take-all between Army and Navy in the spring.
