Who has clinched and who will soon in Men's D2 College?

While we don't have all of the details on the bracket (at-large seeds and additional seeds for various conferences have to be factored in), we do know that conference champions get a spot, and there are likely additionals.

Here is who we know has clinched (and one speculation), and where the other conferences are sitting:

Vermont

UVM has dominated in the New England-Wide CRC, shutting out five of the team's six opponents. Only Quinnipiac scored against them, and Sacred Heart, both in the regular season and in this past weekend's final, couldn't get over the line.

Will the others get a see? Unlikely.

North Dakota State

NDSU beat Minnesota-Duluth 34-12 to taske the Northern Lights. Expect Duluth to get an additional seed. It's been a bit of a down year for Duluth but the program has won multiple national titles and knows what's at stake.

Montana State

Northern Colorado upset Western State in the semis, scoring tries either side of halftime (isn't that often a massive momentum-shifter?) to take the lead and hold on. But on Sunday, Montana State won it all. A try from No. 8 Jack Paloucek and two from center Austin Llewellyn put Northern Colorado in the rearview mirror and put Montana State in the nationa playoffs.

IUPUI

Having won the Midwest, by beating Thomas More 60-12 behind two tries each from No. 8 Spencer Strout and powerful prop Zackary Harlan, and 15 points from flyhalf Brandon Boals. IUPUI is ready for the next step. It's hard to know where the Jaguars will fit in the playoffs, because their opposition has been inconsistent.

Great Midwest Down To 4

Wisconsin Whitewater still seems to be the class of this group, but Marquette has had a superb season. UW-Milwaukee and North Iowa are surprise semifinalists. This conference, when it was called the WIIL, got as many as three seeds. Expect something like that again.

Southern Still Figuring It Out

East Carolina, UNC-Charlotte, Furman, and College of Charleston are the top teams, but Charleston will be in the Small College playoffs, so don't factor here.

Too bad, CofC is solid.

UNC Wilmington losing by a point to North Carolina was a bit of a surprise result, but that region has been playing catchup thanks to weather postponements. UNCW handed Charleston the team's first loss of the season on Saturday, but two games in two days was a game too far.

Well, if you're going to win D2 nationals, you have to be able to win twice in two days, as the final four rounds are scheduled that way.

The result put North Carolina into the semis. Furman struggled to beat Appalachian State over the weekend, but was secure in a playoff spot.

So this weekend, UNC Charlotte plays North Carolina Chapel Hill, and Furman takes on East Carolina in the semis.

The finals are on Sunday.

Tri State: William Paterson or RPI

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has punched above its weight every season and did superbly to beat Marist and make the final next weekend. But William Paterson, who beat the Merchant Marina Academy 69-5, is a cut above. Like the NEWCRC, the Tri-State hasn't shown enough success in the national bracket to get an additional seed.

Lonestar

Still many teams left unbeaten and there are a few weeks to go here. This is a new arrival in the playoffs, so someone is giving up a seed.

MARC

Villanova ad Bloomsburg seem to be the best here and will contend for a national playoff spot. There's a lot of thought that this very tight conference should get more seeds.

Bethel

Bethel College has clinched from the Great Lakes with Efe Ovie and Sujai Ikemefuna both showing their scoring touch.

Said head coach Gil Gadia: "Outstanding ball retention and great skill set shown by our players. Coach [Darrell] Knowlton challenged our team implementing new strategies and systems. The players responded and executed well."

They are in.

Iowa Central CC

Iowa CCC has been playing all D1A and D1AA teams, and has done well 2-4 and not blown out in any game. They've shown their quality and, as an independent D2 team with no one in D2 to play, they deserve a playoff looks.

Rugby Northeast

Undefeated Norwich plays UMass-Lowell in Saturday's semi, with Bentley (5-1) taking on the always unpredictable Middlebury. Don't forget that Middlebury is a former national champ. But Norwich has been very tough this year, and really only had one especially close league game ... against Lowell.

The final is Sunday. Rugby Northeast got two seeds to nationals last year, but unless the play-in round is expended, it will be difficult this year.

Deep South

Spring Hill should wrap this up soon. Tulane is close, but Spring Hill's win over Tulane on October 20 was basically the clincher.

Cardinals

The final eight are set in what is a three-game, two-day playoff tournament. This is a war of attrition for sure.

Virginia vs Virginia Griffins U23s

Navy B vs Queens

NC State vs VCU

VMI vs ODU

Virginia, Queens, NC State, and (probably) VMI are favored to move on to the semis which, like the quarters, are held on Saturday. Sunday is the final. NC State is the favorite, but Virginia and Queens have had their moments. Queens, the new varsity program on the block, joins Norwich and Bethel as varsity teams in this national title hunt.

Gateway

UMS&T and St. Louis University once again battle for surpremacy, likely unseating last year's winner Pitt State. Only one seed is expected from here.

Upstate NY

It's only a four-team league, and Geneseo leads it. RIT had the upper hand early, but lost the rematch with Geneseo and then lost to Buffalo State. Buff State is 3-3 but not really that out of it and could easily beat RIT in the semis. Fredonia is not really contending, but the conference tournament could go to any of the other three.
