Matchups Set For WPL Finales
The first day of the WPL Finals is in the bag.
Sunday's matchups are set for the Women's Premier League after a series of thrilling games on Friday.
Chicago North Shore provided the first big surprise of the day, coming from behind to score on the final play to win the club's first league game of the season and beat 4-3-1 Beantown 15-14.
ORSU won fairly comfortably over the DC Furies and booked a spot in the 5th place final. There, ORSU will play Berkeley All Blues, who overcame two yellow cards to hold off Atlanta 19-12.
Berkeley needed a 78th-minute try from Bulou Mataitoga to seal the victory it.
Atlanta plays Chicago North Shore for 7th, while Beantown and DC face off for 9th.
In the Championship semis, the San Diego Surfers ran out to a 23-5 lead and held on 26-17 over New York. Try-scoring sensation Srah Levy was held relatively in check - she got New York's first try, but that was it. Meanwhile Megan Foster slotted three penalties - two early and one at the end, to help the Surfers get by.
Kimdinh Tran, Sam Pankey, and Taria Carrasquillo all touched down for San Diego.
The Surfers will face Glendale, which weathered an early Twin Cities storm and won 30-5. Prop Sarah Chobot scored two tries to pace the Merlins.
