This weekend it's the Rugby Civil War in Oregon - a game that will tell everyone a great deal about who is strong in the Pacific Northwest.

Right now, that might be Oregon State. After a blowout win over University of Washington, OSU hung 66 on Boise State. The rebuilding is well underway.

"We have started to attract players, and we got a lot of players return and we combine that with 10 to 12 freshmen with rugby experience," said head coach Troy Hall. "going into this season, we put a lot of emphasis on getting the boys tight. We did team days, went hiking. We developed that camaraderie, and then we started adding the rugby."

With a large class of high school rugby players coming out of Oregon HS teams every year, OSU is in a good position to improve and challenge for a conference title in the NCRC. Last week's defeat of Boise State indicates as much.

"Boise State [was] a good measuring stick for us," said Hall. "We've been getting good numbers at practice which allows us to play 15 on 15 at practice. That's helped a lot, too."

Juwan Johnson, a high school standout at Mira Costa in Southern California, has been a powerhouse for the Beavers, but he's not the only one. This weekend, we get to see if the quality lasts. Oregon has been one of the better NCRC teams every year. A Beavers win would put OSU alongside Western Washington, and possibly Washington State, as one of the best in the conference.
