Wisconsin Manages Changes, Has Big Goals

Wisconsin sits atop the Big 10 after a fairly dominant 74-17 defeat of Minnesota, but that’s not the big news from the conference.

For the second time in as many weeks, Indiana has lost a game, this time with Ohio State defeating IU 26-16 a week after Wisconsin did the honors.

Ohio State was very physical, especially early on, and combined with some good work in the backs, got tries from Ronan Forerestal and Nick Zolikoff to lead 12-0. Indiana got a penalty back, but Zolikoff scored his second that, with Andrew Baldado’s conversion, made it 19-3 at the break.

Indiana inched back to make it 19-11, but Ryan Bradfield set up Baldado for a try, which he converted, to seal the game.

OSU moved some players around, including putting a center in at lock, but head coach Tom Rooney said his team is getting better at decision-making and staying with the pattern.

"Indiana is young, and didn't quit, but I know it's hard learning a new system with young players and new coaches," said Rooney. "We lost last year to them by five, and then by two, so it's been a battle every time."

Wisconsin then leads the Big 10 with a 4-0 record, while Ohio State improves to 2-0 (last week’s game against Illinois was halted due to lightning with Ohio State ahead). Meanwhile, Michigan State is still right there, having come back to defeat Purdue 11-8 to improve to 3-1.

But it’s unlikely Michigan State will be able to play for the conference championship, because the Spartans have already lost to Wisconsin. And now, even if they beat Indiana, Ohio State will probably hold onto 2nd.
