October starts next week so we should be thinking about the playoffs, and who in D1AA could make it there; several teams made statements this weekend.

SCRC

The big shakeups in D1AA conferences this week came in the Southeast as Alabama and Kentucky beat perennial contenders South Carolina and Tennessee, respectively.

Notable in those games was the fact that both 'Bama and Kentucky won on the road. 

Kentucky entered the game forced to start five freshmen due to injuries. One of them, fullback Jake Goeppner, had a breakout game in the #15 jersey, while scrumhalf Grant Broeder also impressed.

Kentucky coach Gary Anderson said it was frustrating to see his Wildcats allow Tennessee to dictate the pace of the game.

"But Marty [Bradley] always has his boys on point and they do what they do as well as anyone," said Anderson. Still, Kentucky emerged 36-32 winners.

In another close on in the SCRC, Alabama took a 3-0 lead into halftime thanks to a penalty goal from Ignacio Guisasola. It was Guisasola who would extend that lead with a try, which he converted, and then Jake Lorenz gave the Tide a 15-0 lead with 20 minutes to go. South Carolina bashed at the Alabama line for the rest of the game and got a try, but needed to score twice more. Alabama 15, South Carolina 7.

Alabama and Kentucky are both 1-0 now in the SCRC, and Tennessee and USC drop to 1-1. But these two results give the winners the inside track winning their respective divisions in the conference.

Mid-Atlantic

West Chester was the fitter team and outpaced Pitt 37-17 with a late surge to improve to 2-0, while St. Joe's also improved to 2-0 with two tries from Andrew Sullivan and one each from George Harris, Freddie Gladis, Mickey Chappel, Nick Ballas, and Aram Keshgegian, as the Hawks torched IUP 43-17.

Meanwhile, Rowan hammered West Virginia 64-19 to improve to 2-1.

Ivy League

Dartmouth won comfortably, 95-6 over Cornell.

Brown did well to shut out Princeton 41-0 and start off 1-0, while Yale slammed Columbia 67-0 to join Dartmouth at 2-0. Harvard beat Penn 53-13 to put both of those teams at 1-1.

Chesapeake

More close games and more surprises. Mount Saint Mary's needed everything they could muster to beat Virginia Tech 19-10.

Towson, coming off a surprise win over JMU, was hit hard early by Maryland, and it was the Terps that held on 37-22. This was Maryland's first win of the season. Towson drops to 2-2. MSM is now 3-0 and Tech drops to 2-1. 

Mary Washington improved to 2-0 with a 47-28 defeat of Georgetown. Harry Masters, Lewis Grant, Tamilore Awonusi, Joseph Callery, Philip Harrison, and Adam Warner all scored tries - Callery scored two, in fact. Andrew LaMarca and Tucker Chewning were superb in the pack as the defending D1AA champion Mothers rolled.

Heart Of America

Iowa State put in a huge result with a 43-0 shutout of previous playoff team Missouri. Flankers and brothers Kenny and Josh Hall combined for five tries, while flyhalf Jacob Sunde and center Aaron Stravers were consistent line-breakers for the Cyclones.

MAC

Western Michigan and Bowling Green remain the major contenders, with WMU defeating Miami of Ohio 95-7, and Bowling Green pulling away after a tight first half to defeat Louisville 43-10.
