The Rocky Mountain D1A Conference was already undergoing a shakeup with BYU joining, but the results are causing raised eyebrows, too.

Colorado beat Colorado State 20-17 on Saturday, marking the first time in several years that the Buffs downed the Rams.

"These guys are just workhorses," enthused Colorado head coach Chris Hanson. "But it's more than that. One of the goals we had this year was to have a B side that could compete with our A side. We've got that now. Guys can have a good, solid scrimmage in training and I think that's paid off."

Colorado's defense was impressive and winning that game puts a completely new spin on the Rocky Mountain. If Air Force can rebound from an earlier loss to CSU, we might see a three-way tie atop the Eastern half of the league.

Also this week, Air Force was supposed to play New Mexico, but a car accident on the way to the game stopped UNM from getting there. The good news is, no one was seriously hurt. On a rugby note, that game will have to be played at some point.

Utah State opened up the league season with a 64-5 defeat of Wyoming. That result may well be enough to put Utah State into the conference semis. Conner Peterson and Ian Newton scored two tries each and Jeffrey Clark logged 17 points with a try and six conversions.
