New York did itself few favors with a 33-30 loss to a tough Beantown team over the weekend in the WPL.

While the NYRC squad did get a late try to ensure a bonus point for a close loss (plus a bonus point for four tries), New York will be lamenting an inability to kick goals — six tries, and no conversions, compared to four conversions from Beantown's Kimberly Rozier, made for a three-point loss.

Rozier also scored a try and Stacey Bridges went over twice, vaulting Beantown into first in the WPL Red, while New York is now in a dogfight with the resurgent Atlanta Harlequins for that coveted second semifinal spot.

Tries: Wakimoto, Rozier, Bridges 2, Smith
Convs: Rozier 4

New York 30
Tries: Green, Levy 2, Granby, Salomon, Washington

Atlanta pummeled the DC Furies 51-12 with flanker Monique Compito going over twice and wing Cynthia Campbell doing the same. That result moved the 'Quins into second with a 2-2 record, but the Atlanta club has Beantown and New York over the next two weeks.

Convs: Heavner 4

DC Furies 12

In the Blue Conference, Glendale, San Diego, and Berkeley are in a virtual three-team tie, with the Merlins in the driver's seat and the Surfers riding shotgun. Glendale smacked Chicago North Shore 45-0, with wing Nicole Wanamaker scoring four tries and Hannah Stolba logging 15 points on a try and four conversions.

North Shore is 0-4.

Tries: Wanamaker 4, Stolba, Suda, Tennant
Convs: Stolba 5

Chicago North Shore 0

San Diego was looking to stay close and did so despite a struggle against ORSU. After running out to a 19-0 lead, the Surfers saw ORSU come back to tie it. Second-half tries from veterans Samantha Pankey (for her hat trick) and Kate Zackary gave San Diego some breathing room, which the Surfers sorely needed as ORSU's Rachel Johnson just kept scoring.

Berkeley was idle, and sits in 3rd thanks to earning fewer bonus points so far. That could be a critical stat for the All Blues. This weekend's Berkeley vs San Diego game, however, could change all of that.

San Diego 29
Tries" Blythe, Pankey 3, Zackary
Convs: Foster 2

ORSU 26
Tries: Johnson 3, Law
Convs: Richie 3
