Statement Wins In D1AA

As expected, Tropical Storm Florence played a little bit of havoc with games on the East Coast, and so not every D1AA game was played this weekend.

But there were enough. Here's a look:

MAC

In the Mid-American Conference, Bowling Green took care of Ohio 66-24, while Miami held off Louisville 34-29.

BGSU got a huge game from flanker Dan Walermeyer, who scored four tries, while scrumhalf Chris Labadie (who was a teammate of Watermeyer's at Perrysburg HS in Ohio as well as at Bowling Green) logged 16 points with eight conversions. Perrysburg, in fact, boasted ten alumni on the Falcons' squad today.

MARC

Temple defeated West Virginia 32-11 while IUP beat Pitt 32-26 in dramatic fashion. The game was back and forth throughout, and a late try from IUP won it.

The win for Temple is a big one, as this is a short season for the Mid-Atlantic teams and every win is crucial in terms of setting up for the playoffs.

SCRC

Tennessee beat Middle Tennessee State 68-0 in an impressive showing that puts the Volunteers in a solid early position in the conference, while MTSU probably has to go back to the drawing board.

Alabama vs Kennesaw State was postponed. Kentucky defeated Cincinnati 50-10 in a non-conference match.

Chesapeake

Towson beat Georgetown 34-14. Scrumhalf Jacob Commodari scored the opening try, which he converted, and he added the extras on fullback Peter Duca's five-pointer. Georgetown hung close, but two quick tries early in the second half put Towson in control.

The much-anticipated JMU vs UMW game was postponed.
