This is going to be a big fall for freshman college rugby players.

As the standard of high school rugby continues to rise, and the standard of select-side coaching at that level also improves, more and more freshmen are showing up on college campuses ready to start.

This week's group of top freshmen are all in D1AA, but watch later for our Freshman Of The Week — a D1A first-year with tons of potential.

Seamus Brennan, Mary Washington

UMW won convincingly in the team's conference opener, and Brennan stepped in nicely at center, showcasing some excellent line-breaking ability.

Brendan Laub, Lindenwood-Belleville

An intelligent, hard-charging loosehead prop, Laub came in with some question marks, specifically whether he could adjust to over-19 scrum laws. The Rugby Oklahoma product had no trouble at all, and in fact has shown he can handle himself in just about any situation.

Mike Weir, Dartmouth

In Big Green's close loss to Army, Weir was ... well we'd say he was a revelation except everyone and anyone who has seen Weir play would not be surprised. He directed play well in the backline, kicked for points, scored a try, and set one up.

Aidan Gill and Kai Carlberg, Kentucky

The first-year flanker Gill was a force on defense for the Wildcats in their win over Louisville, while Carlberg came into the starting lineup on late notice and performed superbly.
