We all know how everyone finished at the Rugby World Cup 7s, but that's only part of the story—what about fitting a team's finish to its expectations?

Well, we've got you covered. FloRugby grades every team at the RWC7s based on its own expectations. Sometimes a team that finished quite low will get a good letter grade simply because it did better than expected. Let's have a look:

Grading Notes

It's no surprise we give an A to a team that won it all—that wasn't hard. But some of the other grades might require some explanation. The South Africa and Fiji men had serious championship aspirations, and anything short of that would, for them, be less than optimal. That's why the A- for South Africa at third and Fiji's poor final day hits them hard.

Argentina, meanwhile, finished with two solid wins over tough opposition (remember that France—the team Argentina beat in the fifth-place semi—beat Australia), and so Argentina should be given a high grade.

The USA? The Eagles played A rugby and C- rugby. It's a B, but not a B for meeting expectations; it's a B for being inconsistent. 

Australia lost in the round of 16 and gets dinged for that, but it's the same story for England on the women's side. Both teams figured they might get a medal and failed. But England sucked it up and won three on the trot to take ninth, while Australia faltered badly at the end. 

Chile was superb on the men's side, and Uganda, after getting smacked in the opening round, won two games. Neither was expected to contend and yet produced some good wins. The same goes for Papua New Guinea on the women's side. It only one win, but the team played some entertaining rugby in a new atmosphere. Spain's 3-1 showing also earns an A.
